Sorry guys if this is a nub question. What do I do to wipe off vista and install XP?

any links or tips.. thanks so much.

I had the xp disk in the drive as it booted, but it just came to the vista sign in screen.

You gotta go into the bios when it first boots up and rearrange the boot device order and put the dvd drive ahead of the harddrive and then it should boot from the xp cd

I tried hitting f8 during reboot and that does squat.

change the boot order in the BIOS by rebooting and pressing F2.

Here's a guide, nicely written by EBE.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=81828

To get into your BIOS, press F2 upon booting. Then do what Tangerined mentioned.

Then follow the Guide, but also have your own copy of XP, I am assuming you already have that. But then you will need the Drivers for XP. Have a look through the G1 owners lounge, there are links to the drivers.

Or go to the Asus, support section and download the drivers. It will take some time.

First plan everything out and make sure you have everything before you start reformatting. Good Luck. :D

    I made it through!

few more questions if someone has the time..

When I downloaded the ASus XP drivers, some of them didnt work right away (needed to install certain ones first)

anyways, I went to go run some of the drivers again and instead of re-installing, they uninstalled. Is that normal? forexample... I dont see my battery icon in the bottom right anymore... dang yo.. haha i forgot which driver that was.. or how to get that back.

Also, this one driver called "G1208AS.zip" has one file sitting in it, but isnt a setup file and I'm not sure what to do with it.

I got the list of drivers from a thread here on the boards.

Usually, you'd want to install the motherboard driver first.

Other than that, from your experience, which order did you have to install them in? I'm planning to attempt the same thing this weekend.

battery icon in the bottom right anymore

If the computer is plugged in you don't see it by default in Windows.

And it might be that drivers uninstall when you run the setup again.

Just check your Device Manager to see if all devices are installed properly (no question or exclamation marks near the devices :) )

also "Also, this one driver called "G1208AS.zip" has one file sitting in it, but isnt a setup file and I'm not sure what to do with it."

This is the BIOS file. Check your BIOS version (boot into BIOS it should be listed) and see if it's the same. Otherwise you might want to update but it's not really necessary - you should check on the support website what changes have been made in the new BIOS, and if you need them.

Also, I have seen problems mentioned when installing XP after Vista was installed, either dual-boot or not (something related to the master boot record). You can search the forum for "Vista XP MBR" to see proposed solutions.
