I thought the G51 was supposed to come with some utility that let me toggle the case lights but I can't find it anywhere. I also thought it was supposed to have a utility to easily overclock... and again I can't find anything.

I can't find a credible download link for Direct Console 2.0... and when I search ASUS website for "Direct Console" or "DirectConsole" I get 0 results.

Can anyone hook me up with a download link?

I just looked on the Drivers and Utilities CD.. there does not seem to be any option to install Direct Console.

Yeah.. I found a forum that gave me a link to here: http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?model=Direct_Console&os=24&SLanguage=en-us

Where I downloaded the same file. I installed it buit doesnt seem to run. I can see it is active in my task manager, but there was no program that opened.

    ing awesome.

Yeah it was in the taskbar... duh me.

I am just getting a little overwhelmed because there are all sorts of problems cropping up at the moment after I did some updates. I've lost my audio and every few seconds the machine freezes and then keeps going... and all I've done is install driver updates and that is supposed to FIX my computer.. not mess it up.

EDIT: I got the lights to work for me. Got them to stop flashing and now they are just always on.. which is what I prefer.

Does anyone know how to diagnose a speaker problem?

    Headphones work. Speakers don't.

EDIT: The only thing I can think of is that the headphone toggle must be stuck/broken. Normally when you plug in the headphones the speakers are disabled. When you unplug the headphones the speakers are enabled. And I remember there was a message that popped up that would tell me when I plug in or unplug my headphones. I am not getting that message now.. that means the laptop is not switching the speakers back on.

Any ideas on how to fix? I've just installed the latest audio drivers already...

    Hello,

How did you get them to work? But I actually experienced the freezing problem when I installed Direct Console but when I uninstalled it, it was gone.
(I couldn't find it in the add/remove programs so if you have the same issue click on the setup file you downloaded to remove it :p)

As for your audio problem, maybe try playing around with your realtek drivers?

it's been pretty well established that direct console doesnt have much control on the G51 (except for keeping the lights stable as in the case of dawgma). A few of the more experienced members of the forum were working on a utility called inDirectConsole (search around on the forums here) but not much has progressed lately.
