I have an Asus N80vn-X5. I still haven't figured out how to use the fingerprint scanner to login. The manual says to enable TPM in Bios but my model doesn't have that option. So is the scanner just for show?

Make sure you have the fingerprint driver installed and you have a windows login password set. From the Asus utilities in your program files, you should be able to see a a program for setting your fingerprint options.

Yep, I tried it and set in my fingerprint. But it doesn't work when I try to use it to login.

Have you checked your user account setting in the control panel?

Different model but I registered my fingerprints in the setup and when I next rebooted I thought I would swipe my finger instead of doing the password to see what would happen and it worked. Next time I rebooted it had a different log in screen that said swipe finger to log in. There is also a small button you can click with your login name next to it Im assuming so you can get back into your puter via password if you were in the unfortunate position of no longer possessing the fingers you used for the scanner.

Haha, that one made me laugh :p

In all honesty, though, I can think of a couple of circumstances where it would be useful to also be able to login by password:

Having to log into another user account on the computer

You're nowhere near you computer, but your friend whom you trust are.

You, like me, like to use your hands and therefore fiddles with "stuff" - such as building boats (think "epoxy"), repair bikes, motorbikes and so on, so from time to time your fingerprints aren't really as good as they should be.
