hi, just wondered how to clean my glossy screen propperly.
i tried using half isopryl alcohol and water but it just left residues on the screen which can be seen when the screen is off. (not scratches)
looks like a glossy screen is kinda hard to clean.

how can i clean it so it will look clean just the way it was when i bought it?

    what do you guys use?

Don't use water, that will leave those trails behind. Just get a special cloth made for either eye glasses or LCD screens and use that to wipe your screen clean. No need for any substances, and it will leave your screen spotless w/o any streaks or residues.

You want a microfiber cloth. I recommend the ones from ShaggyMac.com. They are the best that I have ever used. You should use an appropriate cleaner, though. Anything but dust will stick if you use a dry cloth. I again recommend the ShaggyMac cleaner. Just be sure the cleaner is specifically marketed for computer LCD screens.

Neither my V6j or W3j have come with a cleaning cloth. They came with a cloth to protect it during shipping, but if we are talking about the same things, that isn't a cleaning cloth, at least not a good one.

    Hello,

This is Richard from Dell's Online Community Outreach. No, we certainly do not want you to dirty the paint job. I really can't say why we do not include a cleaning cloth. But, it is something I am willing to pass alone as something our customers would like. Thanks for the input.

If you have a True-Life display a clean cloth does quit nicely. However, if you have a matted LCD display the cloth does not always work because it has a lot of texture as compare to an almost perfectly smooth True-Life screen. For the matted screen if you use a really old (usually very soft) but clean cotton t-shirt or cloth with a tiny bit of water it will clean nicely and leave no streaks. Add to much water and you will get streaks.

Another problem you may deal with is the build up of oil. Some people love to touch the screen, like my son (“Hey, daddy look at that!”). So, whatever is on your fingers is now on screen. Oil from your finger can build up and harden on the screen. A dry cloth will not get this stuff off. So, a soft clean cotton cloth with a tiny bit of alcohol and water will do the job to get the really dirty stuck on stuff. When the hard stuff has been removed, then use the dry cloth to get out any streaks.

Very Important: Do not use Windex the clean your lcd display. It will ruin screens protective coating.

    Regards,
    Richard B

For what it's worth, here's what I do.

I buy an antistatic, low conductive LCD cleaning solution, and some cleaning sheets to go with it. I spray it on the screen while it's tilted backwards, and wipe quickly so that it doesn't seep in.
