Hi I did a quick scan but couldnt find any thread related to this topic.
I have recently bought a W3J and am really satisfied with its use.
Just one minor problem. when i turn on the laptop i get asus booting screen in
the beginning which has a tune to itself, the problem is that this tune plays even
when i have set my comp to mute. So I am darted with tens of staring eyes
when i turn it on in lectures or in the library, is there a way to mute or remove
the booting screen? Thank you.

Go into BIOs and turn it off. So boot up, press F(?, I forget, but I think its F7, need a confirmation).

You need to press [F2] for going into BIOS, then move the cursor to "Advanced" and you will see the "Speaker Volume", you also see the "On", and "Off" and "low", and "max". After adjusting the setting, the sound will be muted and booting up.

An even better way, such that you don't startup with mute sound every time: just turn off the playing of the sound itself. In the same menu I believe,
Play POST sound: yes. // change to no
If not in the same menu, just dig for it a little bit in the BIOS menus.
And it's F2 indeed.
[This is from a V6J but I don't suppose that the W3j bios is lacking the corresponding option, that would be silly. If it does, follow the instructions of MilestonePC]
Even later edit, after a reboot and a check: To disable the ASUS logo/splashscreen on boot, go to Boot Settings Configuration, change Quiet Boot to Off. This will display the normal POST messages with detected drives RAM video card etc. instead of the splashscreen. Again, presuming it's like the V6J, but I think the option is there somewhere. -
