Hi all,
I am just a phone call away in purchasing the Asus G1S here in UK, but I'll be moving to the USA. So I was wondering how can I get warranty work in the USA even though the laptop is purchased in the UK?
It seems that for warranty work outside the country where the laptop is purchased, I SHOULD contact the reseller before getting warranty work.
So I called ASUS US Global Warranty centre and they told me the same thing. They said that the reseller in UK will contact ASUS US and THEN ASUS US will do the warranty work.
Is this true or someone just pulling my leg?

Just call or contact the US service department, and they'll guide you through it. It should be similar in terms of steps to the UK warranty system.
I doubt you need to contact your dealer, since the G1s is not a barebone and warranted by ASUS and not your dealer. -
Asus come with an international warranty, I purchased my W3J in the states last year, I am now back in the UK and recently one of the battery latches broke off, I was chatting to a local Asus reseler in London and he said bring it in and he would send it in, no charge.
I would assume it would be the same anywhere with the global warranty, just find a local reseller or their service centre, I woud doubt they would call it a global warranty without being able to service your machine globally, but always good to check first.
Anyway if you are going to the states I would wait till you get there to buy a laptop, they are much cheaper than here in the UK. -
By "global" they mean that they service in the countries they have service points in. Which means NA, most of Europe, few in South America, and so on.
It might be they will pay for the shipping if you are in some different country and sending it in across the border -- but I'm not sure of that and it'll take longer.
But as long as you are in NA, Europe or SE Asia you should be fine. -
Are you going to move to the US immediately? You can also opt to buy in the US where G1S is cheaper. The UK price is around £1249.97 = $2460, if you look at btotech and proportable, there price is only $1869-$1899 and you wouldn't worry anymore about warranty. If you decide to buy in the UK, Asus has global warranty which means there shouldn't be any hassle if you encounter any problem with your laptop.

Thanks for the info guys! I am moving in about 3 months time but I need a laptop now due to work. But you're right, the price difference is insane! Hmm, I wonder if I purchase the G1S from a US website and ship it to UK, I should be good. Even with S/H cost, it still won't be more than the $500 prices difference as quoted above!
FYI, I am also looking at Zepto because it has smaller screen but comes with 8600M GT. Unfortunately, Zepto doesn't have Int'l warranty, I think.
How do one get warranty work out of the country?
