I opened my G50vt and I noticed there was a black plastic cover behind the fan grill... I thought it would open when putting it back on the laptop but I tried blowing some air through it and I didnt feel anything coming out, so Its like its sealed shut...

Is it just a decoration or something?

I think it is for decoration purpose. I read somewhere that air would come in from the other vents, thus providing better cooling through all the other important components, rather than just that one spot. Sorry I forgot where I saw that explanation. But if you search Im sure you will find it.
