    How good are Asus keyboards?

I have never seen an Asus in real life.

On the larger machines 17 inch display and up how good are the keyboards that you have used?

I think they are great i have an Asus G73 and i really like the keyboard especially since it's backlit. I didn't think having backlit keyboards would make any difference since i can type without looking but they look very nice.

I have to type slightly harder because the keyboard is softer or feels a bit more like rubber than the traditional plastic but it feels very nice to type. I can't type as fast because I'm still getting use to the chiclet styled keyboard.

The only annoying thing is that they shrunken the directional buttons down a bit to fit the Numeric keypad and i like using the directional button when correcting mistakes while typing or to scroll the page.

In general the bigger the machine, the more flex there is on the chiclet keyboards. There are some newer systems that have the keyboard mounted from inside the case (as opposed to from the top) and they seem to have less flex. I swapped out my G73 keyboard with a G51, there is a small but noticeable difference between them, the G73 is squishier and has less tactile feedback. I posted some observations here, there are many different ASUS keyboards.

They're about as good as every other keyboard out there - but not as bad as acer, and not as good as lenovo.

If you're in the US, I'd suggest you check your local Best Buy, Micro Center or Fry's store. All should have a few models on display. Each model has different keyboards and it's hard to say which ones are good since the feel can differ for each person.

I played with some of the cheaper ASUS models at BB and I can't believe people actually buy those things, the keyboard flexes so much its hilarious.

Some of the cheap ASUS netbooks have AMAZING keyboards. I think it depends on the model, as others have said.

Oh, Yeah. Absolutely depends on the model!
My roommate's k72 keyboard has a great feel to it. I personally like the Gseries Chiclet style keys.

Just bought an ASUS N73JQ ($1,300) as of 6 weeks ago, all around awesome notebook, solid build, sturdy in transport, attractive, great performance, runs cool, no complaints......other than the keyboard...very "squishy" i.e. very flexible....though it can be "fixed" via adding foam/rubber tape to the chassis that shouldn't even be an issue on a notebook of this price point.

LOL Yeah, true that you shouldn't have to fix the keyboard on an expensive notebook, but it's a 25 cent fix with some doublesided tape. The original asus netbooks had this problem too (the 700 series). Quite simple to fix, as did the acer aspire one netbooks...
