Do this:
Download Driver Sweeper
Install Driver Sweeper
Uninstall your Nvidia drivers through the Windows Control Panel
Uninstall all Nvidia PHysx Drivers
Uninstalls Nvidia System Tools (if you ahd it installed)
If at this point your desktop is not ridiculously low resolution, then you need to go to Device Manager and right click on your Video Drivers and hit Uninstall.
Run Driver Sweeper and tick off everything Nvidia based (except Chipset), run the sweeper.
Restart your computer and run the 186.82 Driver installation.
Check your clocks to make sure it's downclocking. IF not, download Powermizer Switch and run it and restart.
Install PHysx Drivers
Install Nvidia System Tools
Done. Now that should be a sticky somewhere.
POWERMIZER DOES NOT WORK IF YOU ARE RUNNING MORE THAN 1 DISPLAY (You can only have an external plugged in and your laptop disabled, or vice-versa). Running 2 Displays makes the the GPU run at full clocks at ALL TIMES.

wth? I'm lost. anyways, I downloaded the 186.81, which powermizer didn't work. Then, I downloaded from the asus website vga file, version 8.15.11.8669 utility, whatever that does. Now, powermizer is working.
edit: I downloaded the asus nvidia utility and it reverts my driver to 186.69 -
you mean 186.81, right?
-
No, he means 186.82.

186.82
Download the driver, extract the driver, download the INF file, place the INF file into the extracted directory, run the installer. -
eh? he shouldn't need a modified .inf. I didn't.
-
CitizenPanda Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
Hey might not, but using it is foolproof. There are conflicting reports that even if your card is listed as supported, some still had to use the INF.
I've gotten used to using the modified INFs so I never even tested the driver without it. -
Thanks guys for the info. I think I did it right? d/l'ed 186.82 then d/l'ed the inf file. Extracted the 186.82 file then added the inf file into the extracted 186.82 file. It seems to work, but now I am no longer able to change brightness using Fn F5/F6. Powermizer seems to be working though.

Dragon age is really pushing everything so I am overclocking like mad just to get some better frames...
I'm running 600/975/1550 for now (passed 3dMark06 without a problem, though score was only 11800 something).
Waiting on the copper blocks still. -

Mem is 975 no problems here

Your GPU is most likely from a good batch. This is somewhat related. http://forum.notebookreview.com/show...0&postcount=45

Maybe it's Windows 7, but I am definitely not getting as high of 3Dmarks as the other guys around here, even though my CPU is clocked higher (I get a higher CPU score though than Forge, even though his X9100 was clocked at 3.4ghz I believe, for some reason) and 600/975/1550 is higher than some of these guys who have 12000+ 3Dmarks06. -
CitizenPanda Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
Aren't all of these Mems rated for 1ghz at least? I am curious as to why people aren't able to simply run at 1ghz.
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
I don't think it's Windows Seven. On my M570TU, I've surpassed other users' scores running the same hardware with the same settings and on XP. If you optimize and streamline your OS and use a good graphics driver, then you can get a higher score.
-
CitizenPanda Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
Win 7 is a clean install, and I don't have much running on it. I'm using 186.82, so drivers obviously have something to do with it, as I'm sure people are using all sorts of different drivers. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Yes, the memory chips for the GTX 260M on Asus G series notebooks are Hynix GDDR3 rated for 1000MHz. What I was implying in my linked post was that quality control comes into play. Some users can achieve higher clocks on the same card while some can't.
The Nvidia reference voltage for the GTX 260M is 1v. You guys' GTX 260M's are defaulted to 0.95v for obvious reasons. If you raise your voltage, you have more room for overclocking, and remember that the higher you push your core/shader clocks relative to your memory clocks will lower the max operating temperature ceiling. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
It doesn't matter if Windows Seven was installed clean. You still need to tweak it to the bare bones to get the most out of it.
186.82 isn't regarded very much as a benching driver. I find that the older 179 and 182 drivers give the best scores with the G92. -
CitizenPanda Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
Hmm yea, I would assume my memory would have no problem running 1ghz (though being undervolted slightly, it may not).
I don't think the core will do much higher than 600. I'll try a range up to 650. I'll top off the memory at 1ghz and shaders at 1600.
Once I get my copper blocks.... -

Cut out that fake fan grill too. You can serve frozen whipped cream on your notebook after all the mods.
-
CitizenPanda Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
I'm pretty sure that's actually an acoustic damper (not technically fake).
Not that the fan noise is significant with or without the backplate on.
But wait, didn't Forge get Joker's backplate?
Forge, what are you doing with your old modded backplate? -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
I'd rather have lower temperatures than a loud fan. That thing induces too much turbulence for the fan inside of the chassis.
I think 5150Joker is giving his backpanel to Forge, and Forge is giving his backpanel to EIement. It's quite a circlejerk. -
CitizenPanda Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
You mean lower temperatures than a quiet fan
But yea, unless/until I get a spare backplate, I won't be touching this one for a while... -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Whoops, grammar mistake, haha.
Is there an ETA for when the estore will have them back in stock? -
not exactly, i have 12500 cuz of my C2Q and GPU oced a tad bit higher than yours. the ppl getting 12k have ~3000 cpu and normally 6000-5500 GPU scores. while i have 3700 cpu and 5400-5300 gpu scores (my gpu cant OC as far as some, element for example).
if you want >12k, OC to 610/999/1575 and keep ur CPU score. that should put you well into mid 12k region.
650 is way too unrealistic for GTX 260m @ .95V, the best you would get is 620core at most, element got into 13k with an overvolted 1V gtx 260m @ 625/1000/1620 or someth. btw, this is all for a bigger e-peen, ive realized that there is no need for me to EVER go above 585/950/1475, that is high enough for me and i find it runs games smooth with near maxed setting @ 1080p. that's y i stopped @ 12551, even though it was like 35ptz short of joker's record. maybe in a clean win7 install i'll try get 12600-12700. if i had XP my scores would be boosted a lot, which joker had possession of. im not gonna install xp just for 3dmark tho lol. -
CitizenPanda Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
My CPU is 3005.
My Shaders are lower though (SM3 is less than 5000 I believe). -
^and that is the problem. bump up your gpu clocks to push into 13k region.

Hit 86C max.
Still didn't crack 12000 though. -
It would be nice if someone on the forums released a normal Geforce GTX 260M (550/1375/950) BIOS flash, but for now I'm stickign with my defualt clocks cause I don't see why you all need the extra clocks anyhow.

I used to have the same same mentality as Cheeseman, but with my mods I can push regular clocks.
What BIOS version do you have, Cheeseman? Give it to me and I'll get you your clocks. (Even though Tev gives directions on how to do it yourself.) -
If you've been on the forums long enough you'll know that I have a step-by-step instructions made for people to flash their video BIOS. So it's not so much that I 'm incapible to do it, but rather I don't want to take the risk myself when it comes to producing my own VBOIS. Now if you on the otherhand have or could produce a new video BIOS running at normal GTX 260M speeds and has been tested to work then I'm totally up for it.
-
CitizenPanda Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
I don't see the point of a BIOS flash since Nvidia Drivers will simply load whatever clocks you want at startup... -
how do you do that?
-

oh, I have this already. I thought you had something different.
-
there really is no reason to go beyond 550/950/1375, I have found the performance to be quite good.
Why risk heal related deaths if you can help it. =) Especially considering most of the actively cooled stuff shares the same cooler.... -

Still doesn't make sense to me, if you're capable of it--and you've written instructions, you say--you should be easily able to do it.
In any case, zip your BIOS version to me, and I'll modify it. That way you keep your BIOS version.
Or I could give you mine, with underclocked 2d, undervolted 2d/3d/throttle, and standard Extra. No guarantees that it will work with yours, though, since mine might stable at those voltages while yours is not.
Some mods can give you healthy ceilings for overclock
As Soviet said, put your own cooler into your computer
-
what drivers are you guys running on your GPUs?
-
this is annoying, when i clock the same with the same drivers withing minuts im at 75c and i just go back to the stock clocks and it drops back to 60c ish !!!!!
what the hel?!?!!?! -
How do I put my ASUS G51 GPU back to 1.000 volts?
-

It puts the voltage in the NiBiTor.
How high have you clocked your GTX 260M?
