I've been looking around for a good laptop to take with me to university next year, and the Asus F9S caught my eye (The 12.1" screen AND 8400M are very attractive).
However I haven't been able to find any reviews on it (On NBR or elsewhere).
I did read the review for the W7S (which has the same specs, but is a 13.3") and read that it heated up quite a bit.
Could anyone out there who either owned/used/heard about the F9s tell me would this be the same with the F9S? (Which is roughly the same components, in a more confined space) Or is the cooling in the F9S better than the W7S?
Thanks

I don't have a clear answer since I don't have the machine, but I can tell you not to expect too much... Battery and heat are not one of the strong points of current ASUS notebooks.
-
So are you saying it will most likely be quite warm? Aswell as have poor battery life?
Damn.
-
Yep. But who knows, they might have shaped up with this notebook, although it's unlikely.
-
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
If you pack a discrete GPU into a tiny 12'' or 13" chassis, it's going to get warm, especially if you push the graphics card - the XPS 1330 isn't a cool running machine, and the previous 1210 wasn't either. The W7 doesn't get abnormally hot, but does warm up when you push it - heat generating components in a tiny contained space will do that
.
As for battery life, EBE is talking about the problems reported with several new model refreshes over the past year (V1, V2, V6) that are showing high battery wear and whose time is not necessarily comparable to similar spec'd models from Sony. Where the F9 will end up, we'll have to see.... -
Quite true, although newer notebooks (not just ASUS) exagerate with performance in detriment of heat management.
Actually I'm talking about ASUS battery life for all the recent models, in general (not just those affected by battery wear, that's a different issue). It's been getting steadily worse, and behind the competition. -
when is the f9s coming out??
-
Hmm, thats not good, I intend for the laptop to last for a few years.
Would a bigger battery (6 or 9 cells) fare any better?
I think its already out, well down here it is. I'm not sure about the US or elsewhere. -
I just browse excaliberpc and they said that they will have it on 09/28/07 which is tomorrow I guess
-
Well it'll probably last, but the battery life won't be too good
Sure. But it's unlikely you're going to pass over 4 hours, even with the largest 9 cell battery.
Of course this is just an estimate, I don't have experience with the newer laptops so this information is from reviews and user posts.
How hot is the F9S?
