I am looking to get a new laptop. For more information about what I am looking for see this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=150961
What really does matter for me is the screen size/quality/resolution and the quality of sound (and speakers of course). That is why it has come down to the Asus G2S-A1 (although I hope the A2 and A3 come to Canada, and not just the A1 and A4), and the Toshiba X200.
I know the screen is far better on the Asus G2S, although I would need to see a unit before I can purchase it, but how is the sound quality. According to the review posted on Notebookreview.com, it says that the sound quality and speaker quality is somewhat average if not lower than average. This is just one review (no offense intended to the person who wrote the review). So if possible I would like to know other people's view of the sound from the G2S
Thanks!

bump up for you.. i'd be purchasing a g2s-a1 in the next couple of days and would like to know as well~

i watched a little of the DVD 300 in my g1s yesterday and the quality of the speakers is AWFUL, even at 100% volume I had a difficult time making out the dialog... Later I played some command and conquer 3 and got the same results, terrible sound, no bass just real "tin" sounding. If you can I highly reccomend some good computer speakers or headphones.
i didn't buy the g1s expecting much from the sound so despite this flaw i still love mine -
hi scorcho.. the awful speakers in G1S is pretty much world-renowned.. haha, but we are more concerned about the speakers in the G2S. any g2s owners here care to comment?

At home i have an Altec-Lansing 2.0 speaker, so i rarely use the G2s Speaker.
But when im at cafe or somewhere else, personally i think the speaker is ok-ok. After all, its still a notebook speaker. -
Dang i was afraid of this.
I know getting a set of speakers and/or headphones/earphones is an option...but for me it is not.So it is back to the waiting game for the time being.
EDIT: Although I shouldnt be so quick to throw this unit out the window...i would get a better answer if I could find a demo unit here in Montreal...but that is way easier said than done -
I have a G2S and I have played Quake 4 without getting anoyed of the sound - also watched some telly...
It has no bass-punch, but that is to be expected from any NB, they cant place LARGE magnets close to the HDD so they can't really stick big speakers in a notebook.
I can't see why headphones isn't an option if you ned HiFi Quality...

Using earphones and headphones is fine...its just...flat out..I love(d) my Toshiba P20...now i don't know if it was for the fact that it had Harmon Kardon speakers, or if they used a really ripping good sound hardware, but it was faaannnnnttttaaassstttiiiiicccc. Back in February of this year, I went and bought a HP nx9420, a business machine. I had to returned the unit because of a defect, but I was somewhat disappointed by the sound quality. I made an impromtu judgement of thinking that that's how standard laptop speakers sound and a made a decision to stick with Toshiba. Buuuuttttt, as Toshiba is not really treading water with their Satellite notebook specs here in Canada, i might be forced to venture into different waters (this is truly the first time I've ever really gotten pissed at a company...no wait, Palm(One) did that to me too, but we made up lol). Hence Asus...as everything they do and make I enjoy and trust. But as sound/speakers and screen resolution is a major aspect in my decision and choice, I will not buy a notebook if I can't "enjoy" it.. -
The speakers on the G2S are no better or worse than any other notebook computer. It doesn't have the harman kardons of a toshiba qosmio but it does the job with its 4 speakers. The G2S sounds MUCH better than the G1S and can go nearly twice as loud probably because of the two speakers positioned on the sides of the keyboard. The G2S' built-in speakers are comparable to the qosmio's minus the rich bass. I suggest getting a real set of speakers anyway...

I heard the G1s before I got a G2s and you can be sure they are not even close to the same league. The G2s sounds much better, if you need more bass I seem to recall reading an artical somewhere about logitec?? making as small inflatable subwoofer to hide behind the screen. I'll see if I can find the link, I think it was sold at of all places Target.

hmm i still havent really discounted this laptop yet...
"Sounds" better and better everytime i read your opinions in this thread
Now quick question...i think I read somewhere here (in the Asus forum) that those red strips on the side of the keyboard are tweeters...i didnt know that..i thought they were just a decoration? -
All notebook speakers sound exactly the same to me. I've never ever heard the speakers on any particular notebook and thought "hey, this sounds better/worse than the speakers I heard on notebook X". They're all the same to me.

i just noticed you where asking about the g2s!! sorry about that, not sure if the speakers are any better than the g1s. -
Hey all, I got my g1s 5 days ago and I must say that the speakers are horrible. However I find that having adjusted the the speaker equalizer ( You can access it from Realtek Audio Manager ) from "none" to "powerful", it definitely sounds much better eventhough it's still can't be compared to other speaker. I hope this helps~!
How is the Asus G2S-A1's Sound Quality and Speaker Quality?
