I have been looking around, but I have not been able to have my question answered. How long approx. will it be until ASUS releases a new desktop replacement category laptop? Will it be soon? Or is it going to be a while before they release a new model to replace the G73JH?

Nothing is certain but Asus, as many other manufacturers, refresh their lines when new tech comes out. For example last year we had the G51 replace the G50 around june, with win7 release on october we saw a new refresh with G60, in march we saw a new refresh with arrandale, almost the same pattern happen with the G71-G72-G73.

My guess is we will see new G73 when nvidia released new gpu, probably another refresh early next year with new cpu (sandy bridge), and probably another refreash when ati releases their 6XXX line next year also.

Sorry, but I can't really say much about the specs since that info is still considered NDA.
As for the ETA, let's just say college students will be looking forward to their next semester :)

David your words are getting me very excited lol. Im really hoping to get a good gaming notebook soon as i'll be going to college this fall. I really can't wait though because I'm stuck with an eight year old desktop right now that can only run warcraft 3 haha.

I was about to go for it and get the Gx640, but I've been hearing rumors about a g53. Hopefully you're right when you say "college students will be looking forward to their next semester." I'm hoping that it will be like the Gx640, but with a bit better gpu, cooling, and battery life.

...October. damn. I was really hoping this summer. The latest I'm willing to hold out for a notebook is July. I want to play with it a little before I go to college. Plus, I really want a notebook already haha. Guess I will go for the gx640 now. Luckily, the gx640 is not far from my ideal notebook, just wished it was better in some aspects. If nothing comes out in Computex, I'm gonna buy the gx640. Pretty embarrassing though because I canceled my gx640 order two weeks ago hoping that a "g53" would come out hahaha.

I dunno about oct, my gut feeling is august because it lines up with both an arrandale refresh and a possible fermi release. I honestly don't know if I'm hoping for a straight up refresh with the g73 (upgraded arrandale and bugs sorted out, still with a 5870) or a fermi upgrade. Fermi is bound to cause a TON of headaches that are not solved by software tweaks.

There's a nice review of the Gx640 over at notebookcheck.net ... they're still having heat problems, and in a 15 inch case with the core iX processors (i5/i7) it'll downclock if the thermals aren't low enough. As far as I know, the only laptops to successfully avoid this throttling problem are the clevos/sagers and the asus G series.

    More than likely YES. :D
Best Buy's ASUS G series are very popular and I think if ASUS releases a new line or refreshed gaming laptops more than likely you will see them.
Probably with some watered down specs but still decently equipped.
The Best Buy models are relatively cheap for gaming laptops but still powerful enough to play most games well.
Very good bang for your buck most of the time.

Gah, I can't find the link that was on NBR. Basically, intel said they were going release a batch in the summer that are basically what we have now, clocked to the next tier (720 becomes an 820, 820 becomes a 920 ect).

dont get me wrong, I love my g73... but I would trade it in a heartbeat for a shrunken down G53/63 15-16" size with the same or near identical components :)

The nice thing about taking a fermi GPU to college is that you wont need a hot plate in your dorm room. :D
