    is a G1S-A1 considered a semi-rugged or fully rugged ?

What are some of the components on a G1S-A1 sensitive to physical shocks ?

and yea, I know G1S-A1's keyboard is not spill proof.

    Best thread ever...

The G1s is not rugged at all nor does it have any shock protection. It's a consumer notebook, mostly plastic construction...

    Look at here:

Is this supposed to be a joke or something? :p

thanks for the sarcasm, but no it was not a joke.

even a consumer notebook ought to offer shock resistance to a certain extent.

OK, abuse it and report the results back then...

I would be careful with the G1S.

It's reasonably built I think, most ASUS laptops are, but don't expect high probability of survival after hard falls or shocks.

I dropped my backpack when my C90s was in it on a floor with super thin carpeting and the two plastic thingies covering the hinges flew off but that was it. I put them back on and my laptop worked just fine...I actually noticed a small gain in battery life lol

NOTE: DO NOT DROP LAPTOP IN ATTEMPT TO GAIN BATTERY LIFE!!!!

    Heheh indeed :)

Most laptops will survive a fall if inside a bag/sleeve with a reasonable amount of protection. I dropped a cheap-ish Compaq Presario C700 from the overhead compartment in a passenger van down to the floor (indeed, with an intermediate hit on my head) without any consequences. It was in its bag.

Typical laptops will survive SOME falls outside a bag, depending on many many factors such as surface (carpet vs concrete or wood) impact angle (corner/edge vs reasonably flat) and so on.

The bottom line is, don't drop your laptop.

If dropping your notebook results in better battery life... well, it's sounds like a good tradeoff to me, especially in this section... :p

If you're alluding to the notoriously bad battery life of recent ASUS notebooks, we're painfully aware of it...

So in a hard fall, for non-rugged notebook such as G1S-A1, what components beside the hard drive could get damaged ?

If you wanna get something with shock resistance get a Lenovo, some nice specs out there. The V1S features a spill proof keyboard. Most modern 2.5" notebooks have arms that lock when notebook is off and some even sense being dropped and lock the reading arm (Hitachi, I believe). In fact the only real difference between a Lenovo HDD with the drop sense thingy is the rubber shock guard around the HDD whick can be added to an HDD in any notebook depending how its sitting in the notebook.

Panasonic toughbooks are also designed with shock resistance...
