I am starting the search for a replacement to my w3v which in bought in dec '05. In searching for a replacement laptop, I wanted something lighter than my current laptop which was advertised as being close to 5.2lbs. However, some forum posts have led me to beleive that it might be a lot heavier than that which of course affects how I will judge the replacement laptop. Any ideas on what the w3V truly weighed? (i don't have a scale)

In case you are wondering about what replacement I'm looking for.

    4.8-5.2 lbs

    Stylish form factor

Weight was 5.2 lb without battery, including optical drive (no traveler's drawer).

Would that be my posts here and here? I have no reason to believe that my digital kitchen scales are wrong and therefore 2.5kg (5.5lb).

The W3V, W3A and Z63A are essentially the same except for the W3V having a dedicated GPU(so it might weigh slightly more).

Your needs are similar to mine except I prefer battery life to the dedicated GPU. I am waiting to see what the new Dell E6400 looks like. It will offer both Intel and Nvidia graphics options and I would expect it to weigh no more than 5lb.

Or you can get a 2.35kg (5.2lb) gaming notebook now from ZeptoUSA or PCMicroworks. However, read the Zepto forum before parting with your cash.

Most likely that's the weight with a 4 cell battery and the Travel Lite module in the modular bay, so I would add 0.3kg and assume it will weigh 5lbs until we know better.

Lightweight 14.1" can be done. See the Fujitsu S6510. If it were WXGA+ I would have bought one.

Exactly, those are the same reasons why I'm looking to switch. I love the W3V but it turned out to be a bit too heavy and have not enough res for my graphic design tastes.

Having said that, I love Asus build quality and I wish there was an Asus with those specs.
