I've got my heart set on getting an EEE around christmas/new years because I want something to accompany my big laptop to use places otherwise impossible for my big ol' laptop.

Also, I've noticed some netbook manufacturers have introduced dual core atom processors into their netbooks, are they vastly superior?

I used a Netbook for work.

THe Asus EEE is nice for some things, but the eyboard is floppy and missing key strokes allot.

Maybe I need a driver update. I never looked into it.

I have to say over all for web surfing, and writing small docs and spreads sheet it is nice. It is great on battery life.

This is not a bad thing to get. But my SMartphone does 90% of the same tasks and is lighter and less to deal with.

I have an Asus Netbook and love it.
It came with Windows Starter 7 32 bit and I never changed it. Did not have to as it does all I want with it.
You can only put in 2gig of ram so there is not much use for 64bit windows.
The model is the Eee pc 1005PE , it will surprise you at how fast it is.
And it will over clock with software that is built in.
The only thing you can not do with it is watch HD Video, it will lag if you try.
Other than that it will play all the video under that size. And play it just fine.

I have it duel boot , Win 7 starter and Linux, I have the UE linux and it works great .
So for a little Netbook it is a good machine and I am glad that I got it. I can take it anywhere I go and it is easy to carry. The main thing I really like about it is the battery life, I can use it most of a full day and it will not run down, it says 14 hours but you will not get that, you will get about 7 or 8 if you play videos, a little longer if you do not.

But over all it is a good buy I think, Oh the keyboard will take a little getting used to, it is not the keys as they are, it is the size, I think they call it like a 95% and that is just enough change that it will through you till you get used to the placement. And they are tuff little machines also.

If you want a netbook with HD video functionality, look no further than the Aspire 521. I know being an owner of this netbook, my opinion might appear to be biased, but the product's configuration speaks for itself. The built in Ati 4225 HD with dedicated 386 VRAM is the best in its class (unless you count the more expensive netbooks / subnotebooks with nVidia ION). And unlike the poster above, I don't like Windows 7 starter one bit.

That operating system is crippled at birth. No built in option to change wallpapers, no extended desktop facility, lack of Aero or the ability to change native color schemes are just a few drawbacks to name a few.
Also, get at least 2 GB of RAM if you wish to do anything more than just browsing the net (i.e. MS.Office etc).
