Okay ive been reading all the posts about partitioning the hard drive. But I only have the C drive available under the computer managment window. I can shrink the C drive but i dont know how to transfer it to the D since the C is the only one listed in the list. Help?

You usually do it while re-installing windows with a clean DVD

yeh. there are quite a few partition tools out there. partition magic is one of the best. what you do is you burn it to a cd, boot up with it. resize your C: to make it smaller and with the new empty space create a D:. note that the C: should have plenty of free space in order to be resized and also to be on the safe side, backup your data.

edit: for a good list of utilities, check wiki out.

partition magic however is one of the best however.

Do not use Partition Magic - it is not compatible with Vista.

If you want to create a second partition, you can do it in vista. Shrink the C drive and then make the freed up space active.

    * Click on the Start menu
    * Right click on My Computer and click on Manage
    * If you get a User Account Control dialog here, simply click Continue
    * In the left pane, choose the Storage category and open Disk Management. What you will find here are the partitions on your hard drive
    * Right click on the partition that you wish to change.
    * Choose Shrink Volume to shrink the selected partition
    * Enter the new size for the partition, and click Shrink
    * Now, you will notice that the partition is smaller, and some free space is available to create a new one; right click on the "free space" area.
    * Choose "New Simple Volume" from the menu that appears, then click Next.

Okay thanks, however it wont let me make the C drive for my OS smaller than 109 Gb, how can I make it smaller, if I'm going to put my music and personal documents on the other partition wouldnt I want that to be 100 GB and the C (OS) only like 60 GB?

Could it be that your C is full? And I don't really know if it helps but you could try defragmenting your C to push fragments and files away from the end of the drive so you can shrink it more.

edit: Also about Partition Magic. You don't need to install it in Vista. You can boot it up from a CD
