I've looked all over and can't find how. I have a asus x59sl and i have been told to go on 'advanced' on the bios but it doesn't give me the option to change.

    How do I do it?

    Thanks.

Looks like your BIOS doesn't have that option. IDE would be called 'compatible' and AHCI would be called 'advanced'.

You should be able to tell if it's in AHCI mode by going to device manager and then IDE/ATAPI controllers. You should see an AHCI controller there.

Yea looks like you're stuck in compatibility mode. I can't remember if it was under IDE settings from my old ASUS machines, it could be elsewhere. Have you explored all the BIOS menus? Also, changing this will render your system unbootable unless you install the drivers beforehand. There are guides for this, but they vary depending on your setup.

It is called 'enhanced' in the bios, but if you don't see 'compatible' or 'enhanced' for SATA or IDE, then the option is probably not in your BIOS setup. On the other hand, some Intel controllers switch automagically between modes, so you might try installing the drivers. I would back up your data first though, since it may trash your installation if it doesn't work.
