Purpose: I wanted to replace my Intel wirless card with a Atheros card.
It's harder than it looks (harder than a Dell, Tohsiba, Compaq/Hp). It requires some skills. (if you haven't dissamble a laptop b4 don't do it....I have done 4 laptops before....Not reccommended for rookies or not-mcguiver like!!!
Equipment needed:
-Philips screw driver
-Plastic card (CAA)
-A recipient for screws...
Method:
1- Remove all the screws covering the Ram Cover, the HD cover, the heat sink cover.
Remove the HD, ram, and the ODD(CD-Drive)
2- After removing the heat sink cover, remove the actual heat sink/pipes....there is 4 screws on the CPU(just remove the void warranty sticker and put it back on) and 1 screw on the heat sink...
3-After removing the heat sink, there's a screw under the copper pipe so remove it.(figure 1)
4-After removing the ODD there are 3 screws that have to be removed..(figure 2)
5-To remove the keyboard: there's 3 small plastic snaps between the F2-F3 key, F8-F9 key and PrtScreen-INS key...use a credit card (or useless plactic card, in my case it was a CAA card) to push the plastic snap . (Figure 3)
6- Now remove the 2 screws under the keyboard and the flex connector. (figure 4)
7- Use your plastic card to unsnap the hinges...after doing so...remove the screw near the LED (figure 5)
8- Remove the flex cable on the miniPCI card...now gently remove the miniPCI card...and replace it with the new one....
I didn't remove the dozen of wire connecting to the main board
so becarefull don't force it you can break some wire connection... (figure 6)
Put the thing back together...and you you see the centrino anymore
Have fun changing the miniPCI card on your W5a...not for rookies!!!
(last picture should have been 3rd)
Any questions???
