Hi,
Is there any way to connect my Asus A6JA laptop to my homestereo so that I could get surround sound? If this is possible, what cables or other accesories I need? Thank you for your help!

Yes, you first connect the S-Video connector to your laptop to your TV, that will get you your video, now you need audio.
You take the Heaphone jack (SPDIF), and then use a headphone out to RCA adapter and then you will be able to get your audio.

I dont know what kind of stereo system you have. if it does not have a pc audio jack you can do
1. hook it up via pc audio if you already have a receiver. This only gives you 2 channel sound
2. Another way is to get an spdif receiver. This will probably have an array of connection options as well. It should allow 5.1 channel via spdif

something laike that is a start.
3. pc card slot or pci-express slot audigy or equvalent sound card can also do the trick it all depends on the type of connection your speakers or receiver utilizes.
