Hello, I would like to be able to crank up the RPM of the fan because the laptop gets hot quickly in a hot and humid place like Singapore. This causes the laptop to lockup and shut down itself. This also happens when I play games like GTA IV by overclocking the GPU. The fan runs at the second highest speed when I overclock the GPU and the CPU runs at max. Soon, I found out that the fan has another higher speed when only the CPU is maxed out during Defragmentations. I would like to be able to set this fan speed during gaming as the laptop does not do so itself. I've found other threads which talk about using NHC to control fan speed on A8Js, but I have an A8Jr. Please help me! (I already have a cooling pad that has 3 fans at 2500rpm, but laptop is still very hot, i.e. 78 degrees celsius after gaming).

Might be able to modify the fan code in your registry, if the code is there.

Follow the attached guide, if you want I can take a look at your ASL file for the fan code.

You do have the fan code there, but it's not simple.
I will have to think about it, I'll try to have a test version for you tomorrow.

theres problem 1, lower your overclock.

a defrag shouldn't be close to maxing your CPU.

is that 78c a second after, a minute after, an hour after? on idle?

GTA4 should be magnitudes more demanding on the CPU then defrag, so if that triggers the higher state then it should also be triggered by GTA4.

out of curiosity, when was the last time you cleaned out your internal fan/grill?

It is 78c a minute after. I have now lowered the CPU voltage and the temp never goes above 78c. I have never cleaned the fan/grill but I haven't seen much dust there. And a thanks to moral hazard first!

Ok, I have one test version, if this doesn't work then I can't really do anything (other than change the active cooling (fan) trip point).

Please load the attached file and tell me the results.

If you get a blue screen when you restart, boot "last known good config".

Make sure you backup all of your important files first.

I'll try to give you another test version tomorrow, but it's not easy for me.
Your code is a bit strange.

I can make your fan come on at a different temp, but I can't figure out how to change the speed.

    Did you try speedfan yet?

I've tried SpeedFan and it detects no fans. Can you make the fans turn on to max at boot up (regardless of temp)? I don't mind the noise. In fact, I kind of like it.

I guess I can change the THRM value to 85C.
That would trick the notebook into thinking it's hot, which should increase the fan speed.

But it may trigger thermal throttling of your CPU, so I would have to disable thermal throttling. This could be bad if your temp goes too high, since your notebook would not throttle to stay cool.

I have attached the file with the THRM value set to 85C.
Try it, if you get thermal throttling, let me know and I will try to disable it.

How do I know if the laptop carries out thermal throttling?

If you see your frame rate go down, or if your benchmarks go down.
You will notice the performence decrease.

Doesn't seem to work. Fans still not running at max. Maybe you can try the other method you mentioned? Thanks for your hard work by the way. Don't see thermal throttling, I think my laptop doesn't ever do that. If it gets too hot, it just locks up and I will have to force shutdown.

Did you happen to see what temp was reported by software?
Did you see it say 85C?

Yes. SpeedFan says Temp1 is 85C but fans doesn't seem to be running at max. Crazy motherboard.

This is pretty much the last thing I can think of.
Let me know if it works.

I'm not really good at ACPI programing. Maybe another forum member can do it, because the fan code is there.

Doesn't work either. Is there a way to do something with NHC similar to those described in other threads that worked for the A8Js and A8Jm?

It seems to me that they change the fan trip point to a higher value so that the fan will come on later (they want the notebook to be quiet).

I can do that for you. But I can't speed up the fan.

Can you show me a post where they speed up the fan?

Aw . Just at this moment, the fan is running at max! Only maybe when both cores of CPU hit 75C? Any way to fool the computer?

Here is one thing that should work.

Use the file I gave you that set the TZ or THRM value to 85C.
    Restart the notebook.

Then stress the CPU with intelburntest until the CPU reached 75C.

Then as the CPU cools, the fan should not slow down since the TZ value would be 85C.

Just try it, works for me.
