Hello All,
I just bought an N53JQ. All the specs are great except they put a 5400 hard drive in the machine. So I want to upgrade it before even doing anything with it. Do you know how to disassemble this laptop to get to the hard drive?
This is what I have tried so far:
1. Called Asus. They have the most horrible customer service center. They dropped my call several times, connected me to another customer!, and when I got people on the phone they had zero knowledge and zero interest to help their customer. They also said they didn't have a tier 2 support and I was never connected to a supervisor.
2. On the back of the unit, the only screws are:
a. Inside the battery compartment. And a little screw inside the battery compartment allows the removal of a small door, I removed these screws and tried to dislodge the bottom, but everything was still tight.
b. Behind the small door is the small backup battery. There are two screws there. I can loosen them but not remove them. After loosening them I was still unable to dislodge anything.
3. I removed the keyboard successfully. behind it is a metal plate. I removed the screws that hold that together. but the metal plate goes underneath the plastic on the top of the laptop. I was not able to dislodge anything after removing these screws.
4. There is a clear delimited compartment on the back of the laptop on the front with the symbol of a hard drive on one end and RAM on the other. but there are no screws holding it together. Nor are there any tabs.
So how do I replace the HD?
Thanks!
Nima

Could you post here a picture of your laptop's bottom side?
I will mark it on paint and re-upload here. It will be much easier to describe it that way...

Thanks Allan. Thanks so much. This solves my dilema. I asked the Costco concierge people if the screws would be underneath the rubber shoes, and they said no. The Asus help desk doesn't even know what a computer is.
I really appreciate you taking the time and showing me. -
nimadi - it was no problem, that's what I'm here for - to help others.
I also enjoy (sometimes) watching videos of laptop reviews.
Glad I could help! Merry Christmas! -
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
That said, the information on any given chassis' disassembly can be found online or via sources here @ NBR Asus if you look around. -
i also have an asus n53jq....thanks for explaining this... i was wondering if there are any instruction manuals that would show how to replace the Keyboard and the Wireless card... if you do replace the wireless card does that void the warranty/warranties?
thanks in advance -
The only warranty void sticker is on the CPU.Attached Files:

i have a question which intel wifi dual band cards work with this model.... i see a lot of options... the newest one is the Intel Ultimate N 633ANHMW IEEE 802.11n (draft) Wi-Fi Adapter - Mini PCI Express - 450Mbps...and this one Intel Intel 5300 Ultimate N Wi-Fi Link Wireless Network Adapter - Mini PCI Express how do i know which cards will fit my laptop

It has to be a half height card, the 6300 is, the 5300 isn't if i recall correctly.

You can see the wireless adapter in the last pic of this post: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...sandybridge-owner-thread-156.html#post8203475. -
thanks alot for the info... in order to open the case do i have to pull out all of the drives to get to the wifi card???

I do not know for certain since i do not own one, but it does seem like quite the disassembly so i'd venture a yes as a guess. You need to get top panel removed to access the wireless adapter.
