Hi can anyone guide me on how to do a clean install of vista on my G1s?

I booted the computer up using the recovery DVD and did a reformat of vista. But after it finished the computer still had all the bloatware crap with it. So I was wondering if there was anyway to just do a Vista install without all that other junk.

When I did a search in similar topics people suggested to use the recovery DVD and when it asks for the driver DVD to not put it in and just restart the computer, which would leave me to a clean install without any drivers or bloatware. However the reformatting process never asked me to put in another DVD and it just went all the way through installing all that uneeded software.

Am I doing something wrong or can anyone suggest another way?

If you want a clean install, then you need a Vista DVD, not the factory restore DVD. That just installs the original bloated OS. You want a fresh install, and that requires a Vista DVD which you have to purchase.

Not correct, you don't need to spend any additional money on this.

The only thing you need to do is the following: use the normal recovery from DVD, and when the recovery process asks you for the driver and apps CD, do not insert it. Instead, reboot the computer.

That will give you a clean Vista install, and you can then pick up and install drivers and your favorite apps, without having to deal with the bloatware.

Wait, now I read your message until the end :) I do that sometimes...

Are you sure you were using the recovery DVD and not the recovery partition of the computer? This method should work with the DVD...

Well here's what I did. I put in the recovery DVD then restarted my computer. The computer just went to vista without any prompt for booting from DVD or anything. So I restarted once again and then hit F9 after the Asus logo went away. I chose the first default option that came up because there was nothing to indicate booting from the DVD. This just led to a screen that asked me how I would like to recover and partition the HD.

Now that you mention it, I probably recovered from the recovery parition and not the DVD. How exactly do I boot from the DVD because just putting it in and restarting the computer doesnt bring up a boot menu?

    Yes that's clearly what happened.

It's simple, put in the DVD, reboot the computer and when you see the ASUS logo/splashscreen, hit ESC once. This will bring up in a few seconds a popup menu with the boot devices, and you can select CD/DVD.

If this doesn't work, enter BIOS by pressing F2 at the ASUS logo, and select from the boot menu the DVD as the first boot device.
