Not sure if the laptop have backlit keyboard. Unless it's false advertising, I believe the backlit keyboard is a hardware related issue--it should turn on when your computer turns on by default. Then you have the option to turn it off with the keyboard button(s). Yours may be defective?

    hi hanime...
I asked the service person in the shop where i bought it.. He was not aware of it.. ma frnd has the same x53 series but i7.. even he says that his keyboard is not backlit.. it remains a mystery.. i searched for terms like enabling backlit keyboard in Asus x53sc but in vain.. none of them talk about this model then does it mean that it is available only in selected models..? if so can i add this feature by giving it for the service (covering within warranty)..

I already read your post reg. keyboard mod when i was searching for this issue.. :)
That was brilliant but i could nt imagine putting ma new laptop to that difficult operation ;)

Is there any way by which i can ascertain if my keyboard is having a backlit option.. ie. it has that provision.. (without opening)..

Or will installing the asus ATK driver of the model that has a backlit keyboard give shortcuts to it??

Whoever had written the brochure (or typed it into the website you found it at) made a mistake. This happens, and is just the way it is :). The X and K series are virtual twins of each other, and the K53 has no lit keyboard. Asus doesn't typically build these features into their entry-level products.

New ATK drivers won't help, because the LEDs are not within the keyboard in the first place.

It's possible there are some variants out there of the K newer series that have backlit keyboards, but I am not aware of them. The K50IJ-BNC5, for example, was a special one-off backlit version for Best Buy.

F3 and F4 would have keyboard icons on them if your keyboard is backlit:
