Hello all,
I bought a Z83V and for the love of god, cant get the middle and right clip back on. What is the best way to get these clips back on? Some help would be great, thanks! I have politely asked twice about it to where I bought it, and no support. So I figured why not ask here. Its now been 3 weeks. Where I bought it from, they marked up two of the 3 clips pretty good I guess when installing the parts, and now they dont snap in like the left one. Cause frankly, it should not be this difficult.
I have tweezers as it was prefered in the keyboard guide by ASUS. No matter what I do, it just wont stay clipped.

OK, don't worry..... Did the clip physically push back into the chassis or did it break off? Unfortunately, the cover doesn't come up on that model as easy as it does on other models, but you can fix it. You may need to pull the top panel of the chassis apart, but there is a little piece of spring steel that puts pressure on that clip. If you didn't actually break it somehow, there is a fix.

Can you go bit further in detail for me? thanks, much apreciated. -

Well, I don't think you'll want to do it because it's going to make taking the system apart. There's no good documentation out there to really show you, but you've got to start removing screws because you need to get under that top chassis cover. It's not broken...... it can be reattached.... but you're looking at taking your computer apart... you have to decide if it's even worth it.

Is there any way I can just somehow get the top middle and top right held down? There has to be some alternative to get it down. WHy ASUS decided to use clips and not screws is beyond me. -

The only thing i could think of is it use small pieces of double sided tape, but i mean there should be no reason why i should have to be doing this on a new notebook I paid out of my a$$ for. Sorry for the language, just bit upset that im getting no support.

The clips are one of the best things Asus does...... there is a screw holding that down as well...... but getting access under the keyboard and for that matter - being able to take the keyboard out to replace it is something that Asus has done for more than five years now and it's still better than having one that can't be removed.
now... the clips are just to hold the top edge.. the bottom slides under the top cover...... there's a screw that holds down the middle of it.. and the clips at the top not only hold well, but are also pretty easy to push out of the way to gain access.. honestly, how you managed to break it is beyond me though.... I've only managed to pop one of those off ever.... my guess is you pushed in too far. There are three other clips that will hold it down though... you can use double sided tape, that's always a good alternative. -

I was doing as the manual said, gently using a pair of thin tweezers and pushing the clip in while putting the keyboard into place. And then the thing just went back and wouldnt come out. -

Ive had the two clips like this right from when I got it. The keyboard would stay in place for a week or so, then all of a sudden start getting loose then eventually the corner will pop out. So I had to try to put it back on. Its happened like twice so far, and when I think I finally have it clipped in fully, it releases itself again the week after or so.
Hey, its not my problem the two clips came to me out of the box, marked up. What was I suppose to do with it? Even if its a built on asus, I would at least expect my unit to come mark free.
Its like saying, you buy a car and the left door doesnt close properly. Then later on, it breaks. What the heck is the user suppose to do, when it came like that, and had no support on it when he would ask about it. -
I would call the company ask for someone in charge, explain the problem.

Those clips really dont just break. You have to be picking at them for quite a while or just picking the wrong way. They are pretty easy to fix though if you can get under the plastic cover. There is a little metal flex spring under the other side which need to be reshaped and reinserted. I ve never done this on the z83v (never had to). I can see why you ar emad but the only person responsible to provide support for you is your vendor. If you want to voice out your frustration you should voice out your vendor and why they are not helping. I never had any complaints on this and cant say i read any prior to yours. You may have a defective keybaord from the start and the clips just didnt hold it right now after playing with it the clips broke.

You can try asking your dealer for help. This can be an easy fix or the whole top cover needs to be replaced which is not very difficult either.

Anyways i tried the double stick tape with small pieces right where the clips were and though i didnttake the other side off yet, it causes the entire keyboard to raise and flex. Didnt do this before.
edit: GEEZ, TONS OF FLEX IN IT NOW. WITH THE SMALL PIECES UP TOP. -

Let me work on it, will update in the morning.

Make sure you use very little double sided tape... and the THINNEST type.

What foam are you talking about?
I put double sided scotch tape ("carpet" tape) under one of my Asus notebooks... and that's all I needed. Nothing extra...just tape on the chassis, and the keyboard stuck on top of it. -

I would imagine that would be the same thickness as the scotch original tape?
-
Scotch makes doublesided tape I have some in my junk drawer. Its the same thickness as regular scotch.

Cause it seems mine is rock solid right now with the tiny bits of foam up top. -
I have a doubleside scotchtape under mine too.. Hey, it's getting too common! I want to be unique.

if not, what is your reason for tape under yours.
Its great to see this wonderful support from where I bought it, isnt it? -

Alright I have a bit of a problem here. The tape just wont hold the stick. I even tried doubling and then tripling the tape on top of each other but still wont stick. It just wont hold. I dont know, maybe im not using the right stuff, maybe its not strong enough.
The foam stuff seems alot stronger, maybve its me.
I have the scotch double sided scotch tape, im sure its the same as what u use. But i need to get a fix for this so im gonna buy a new tape today if i have to. -
