    Hello,

I have an Asus W1JC notebook and I would like to install the latest catalyst drivers 7.10 but when I go on the AMD webpage to download it , I cannont because it tells me that Asus manufacturer does not support the catalyst drivers . (I have a Mobility X1600).

I tried to download the 7.10 from another website and install it but I get the message that the driver is not compatible with my system...

Am I supposed to wait for Asus to release their own version of those drivers ?

For the moment I am running on omega drivers ...

    THks

I suppose you're using XP, no? How about downloading from here? Then, if you can install the driver that you downloaded from there, save the link in your favorites folder, because each time ATI releases a new driver, you can always download it from that link (at least until now).

And there's a good reading here... if you have time.

Two of the best resources for everything ATI graphics is the forums at driverheaven.net and rage3d:
First, here's a completely thorough guide detailing precisely how to completely uninstall and clean out every trace of your presently installed video drivers (which you should absolutely do before installing new) and then how to properly install the updated drivers:
    http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33738545
That guide also covers and addresses numerous and common problems.
These are links to the forums I mentioned:

    driverheaven:
    http://www.driverheaven.net/ati-radeon-drivers/
I didn't notice what OS you're running; if vista, there is a separate sub forum like the one above

    Rage3d
    http://www.rage3d.com/board/

These two sites specialize in ATI (as well as nVidia) information, issues, drivers, etc. In particular, BEFORE making the potential mistake of merely grabbing the lasted updated driver, you should peruse both sites to find out WHETHER YOU SHOULD use the newest update or whatever version you're considering. Both sites have detailed information relating to every catalyst driver and every ATI product together with information about which driver is best for your product as well as solutions for almost any problem.

Finally, you should check out drivercleaner:
    http://www.drivercleaner.net/
I'm not sure if the lesser free version is still offered, but this was/is developed by the guys at driverheaven.net and is an excellent tool, to fully eradicate the existing video drivers. If it's no longer free, the FAQs/instructions are an excellent resource to do it manually.

Regardless whether you encounter any problem or not, this is another good resource to check out and read to anticipate or avoid problems:

Common Problems and Fixes -- it's very extensive
    http://www.driverheaven.net/windows-xp-2k-radeon-display-drivers/69335-common-problems-fixes.html
This is a direct link to the downloadable version:
    http://choggi.googlepages.com/radeonhelp

BTW: I not trying to suggest that updating catalyst drivers in particular or video drivers in general is necessarily difficult or problematic; but video drivers in particular can lead to particularly difficult problems and when things do go wrong, it's often disastrous. I'd err on the side of caution and update your catalyst drivers carefully if there's worthwhile features that you've confirmed at driverheaven and rage3d are workable. Also, you can look into Omega or other mods.
