Got one from RMA ? Well, only way to know for sure is to get the machine still in it's package.. and even then who knows if they've opened it and repackaged.
You just have to study it carefully and look for signs of use.

Mine came in the retail box but didn't have any stickers on it, and don't know if they weren't there or they just removed them.

    Welcome to the forum!

Asus doesn't sell or offer Refurbished notebooks to resellers or anyone else - never has.

Any warranty work they do is then returned to the owner, resellers have no reason to hang onto anything they send in either since the repaired notebook would go back to the owner.

Unless you're buying second hand (Ebay, Craigslist, etc) it will be new.... you can relax now :).

A lot of sellers or resellers on ebay may be selling them in second hand (or not) as well with craigs like the above poster said. If you're getting it on craigslist or ebay check for abuse or the original stickers, when buying it from a retailer, newegg, best buy etc, then you know it's new.

That is a remanufactured laptop not refurbished there is a difference. They can sell those as new. Remanufactured means they fix it and make it look and act new.

Refurbished equipment they just replace parts and make it work. Refurbished equipment can sometimes look new but it will usually have some sort of defect like a scratch or off color somewhere on it.

ALso, if you look at Ecomelectronics list of Asus Laptops, and find the G51, before you click on it, read it's quick description, it says "Refurb"

Though you MAY be right that there is a difference, I would bet that 90% of people and retailers don't know if there is a difference so they use the words interchangeably.

Just to clarify what's already being disclosed here:

Asus directly has never sold open boxes or refurbished items, or even new ones - We do not have capability to sell direct. That is also why we don't have an online configurator for notebooks.

However, due to the influx of models being returned by retailers, and e-tail partners without actual hardware defect, as verified by our service technicians - Logistically and economically, it is cheaper to offer Tiger Direct, Best Buy and other retailers the refurbished items rather than collect all non hardware defect units to be shipped en masse back to HQ, after all they are functional machines. They are fully functional units, maybe a scratch here and some sticker residue there, some selling for almost half off the brand new price - they are some decent buys.

So here a question for you. Does ASUS offer refurbished laptops as replacements to non fixable warrentied laptops?
