I have damaged the screen on my ul30vt laptop and I'm not sure how to repair it. The screen is broken after I landed flat on top of the laptop by accident. I can see that there are visible "shards" in the screen, and no image is displayed. The laptop is otherwise in fine shape - I can use it with an external monitor attached. Anyway I am looking for detailed manual that describes how to debug the laptop to see exactly which spare part I need and also how to replace an existing screen with wiring etc. Also I am wondering if anyone can recommend a place I can get hold of spare parts for the laptop for a reasonable price. Not trying to use this post as a way of purchasing spare parts, just need input on where to get hold of parts. I have mailed with Asus about this issue, and they have been helpful by informing med that I can not buy a new screen from Asus, but instead they refer to Asusparts. I was unable to locate the spare part (or the information I needed to proceed) from the site, so I am hoping someone else have been in my situation and has a recommendation on how to go forth to solve this issue..

Can you build a desktop? Then you ought to be able to replace this without a manual - asus builds their computers in a fairly straightfoward manner.

I would recommend laptopscreen.com I broke my g50's lcd screen and had trouble finding a replacement aside from asus. I found that site and it has the cheapest prices for replacements, Asus wanted 350 dollars plus labor to replace my screen and they said labor was a flat 75 dollars I believe. I bought my screen through laptopscreen.com for about 180 dollars and got it within a couple days in perfect condition.

Also for instructions just remove the bezel off of the LCD screen, Asus generally uses 8 screws hidden behind the rubber scratch guards, 3 on each side and 2 on the sides of the webcam. Remove the bezel and unscrew the LCD panel from the metal frame that is attached to the joints, unplug the LCD ribbon cable from the monitor, most dont have locking cables you usually just pull on it, but check to make sure. The screen should be completely seperated from the laptop at this point, you will have to take it to a hazardous materials disposal center because it contains mercury. Then take your new LCD and mount it to the metal frame insert the LCD ribbon and re attach the bezel and you should be all set.

They cost $160 on eBay, for a new screen with warranty.

Hm, after a few days I noticed that the new screen I mounted in my laptop suddenly starts to fade and then go totally black - it starts fading in on one of the short sides and then the fading propagates to the parallell other side - it goes black in only one to two seconds. The fix turned out to be gently squeezing the edge of the screen / the lcd bezel. I have checked that the cable is attached to the panel. When I mounted the panel I noticed that the short sides had a minor difference in design compared to the original panel. Regardless of the difference it seemed to fit, but maybe this is causing this new fadeout-feature.. I am suspecting there might be a problem with the grounding of the panel. Anyone else who has had this issue after replacing an lcd panel?
