Just got my F8SN-B1, is this a Asus thing or a Vista thing or a Nero thing?

I see it is in the folder: C:\Program Files\Common Files\LightScribe

I run it, it tells me I have no LightScribe, fair enough. But I can't seem to find anyway to uninstall it. Plus it adds Service that I need to disable.

I have the same notebook but not the same dir/files you describe. Funny thing is someone asked a'while back if the CD/DVD writer on these notebooks (F8Sn) had the "Lightscribe" option. According to the Asus site they DO support Lightscribe , not that I've ever used it or even tried.

Which service are you referring to ?

You can view/edit services via Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Local Services

    I see a Service called

    LightScribeService Direct Disc Labeling Service

Used by the LightScribe software components to support 3rd party disc labeling applications using the LightScribe COM Application Programming Interface (LSCAPI). This service needs to run for LightScribe direct disc labeling to work.

    path to executable: "C:\Program Files\Common Files\LightScribe\LSSrvc.exe"

Of course, I can disable it, but rather just get rid of it entirely if it is completely useless. Unless if I really do have LightScribe...

Do you see a windows installer package named LS_HSI in the Lightscribe folder? You can remove Lightscribe by running it. Or try to uninstall using CCleaner if it's listed in the program list.

Deleting from the Start menu is certainly safe, but it won't affect the functionality (so if it starts automatically now, it will after that too). Better use msconfig to stop it from running, if that's what you wish.
