I have a 1005HAB that I purchased in August of 2009 -- came with XP, 1GB of ram, 160GB hard drive and a 1.6Ghz Atom CPU. I am using it as a carputer -- it plays my music, connects to a touch screen, has GPS, external WiFi, OBD-II, and now I'm looking to add active video recording. A lot of things for a little eee PC to handle.
In order for it to run better I would like to beef it up; upgrade the DDR to maybe 2GB (does my notebook have two DIMMs so I can do dual channel? Or should I just get a single 2GB?), get a bigger, faster WD 500gb Scorpio Blue and *possibly* upgrade the processor, although I do not believe it will be worth it.
Any advice on the DDR? Would upgrading the CPU be worth it? I think I'm going to be keeping xp.

I do not think it would be possible to upgrade the CPU, but yes the RAM is upgradable to upto 2GB DDR2. Note that your Eee, like most netbooks has one slot for RAM and Atom processors (for netbooks) can handle only upto 2GB capacity.
Swapping the 160GB 5400rpm drive with a bigger, faster HDD should not be a problem

Atom cpu fixed can't be changed and rest is whatever he wrote b4.
You might want to get a notebook if the netbook not fast enough to do all the jobs.
I'm using eee 1005pe just for the size and battery life on the go, it fits in a smaller bag and light, good to get online at most areas. -
Thanks for the replies.
I have another spare notebook, a Vaio SZ series which is quite powerful, but it isn't set up for such a purpose (for ex., my eee pc has been modded to have an external power switch, i have all the adapters and it fits nicely under my seat).
Ill get the hdd, but what ram? It's been a while since Ive upgraded any DDR, last I checked Crucial was up there. What frequencies/latencies can my eee pc handle? eg what's the fastest RAM that i can use? THanks again
