    Hi everyone,

I've been using the Vista Ultimate that came with my G1S-A1, but I'm beginning to wonder whether I should switch over to XP.

Bioshock, which I take to be an example of a pretty current game with pretty current system requirements, hovers around 22-30 FPS (mostly at the lower end) at 1024x768 with settings on high - not quite enough to make the game smooth and fully enjoyable

I'm wondering what kind of an improvement I might expect by switching over to XP, and whether the FPS I'm getting in Bioshock is typical of what a G1S can handle. Perhaps my system just isn't optimized...?

I'd appreciate your advice. I find it a bit disconcerting that I can't play games like Company of Heroes comfortably with all the settings high, with a reasonable 1024 resolution. I take it Vista is the real culprit...but I could be wrong.

What version video drivers are you running Bioshock with? I run it with 169.04 at 1280x800 resolution (all settings turned high) and get around 28-35 fps. The 163.44 and later drivers give a really good boost to the frame rates for bioshock.

Also, check the Vista power options in control panel to make sure its set to high performance. I've heard rumors that power options cause low framerates. Lastly, make sure Powermizer in Nvidia control panel is turned off.

If you want, you can try turning off the DX10 shaders and see if that helps you out. XP will definitely give you some edge with frames, but you will be sacrificing the DX10 eyecandy. :)

I'm using 169.04, and I've also got 3gb of ram! I wonder why my framerates are suffering...

I've just set the computer to high performance, although usually I do the same via the ASUS Net4Gear or whatever it's called.

Where is the "powermizer" function in the nvidia control panel?

I'm going to test bioshock again with the new Vista power setting.
