    N56JR C hdd.jpg

I have a N56JR-DS71-CA with a single 750 GB hdd. I am replacing my desktop with this laptop.

At the moment, I have a 1TB WD in an external case that isn't too old, and I am using this to collect all the files I had on 2 or 3 hdd that were in the desktop.
I bought a new 2TB wd passport hdd to use for backup and further storage.

How should I use the 2TB as a backup hdd? Should I partition it or just use a folders to copy the laptop hdd and it's various partitions?

You should just do it the way thats most organized for you. If folders work best do it that way. I do it folders and name the appropriately like "music" "pics" etc. Or you can get software that will make an image of your hard drive so it copies it identically, but that will take up more space then just copying individual files.

I have no problem backing up all my own files on an external hdd for storage. I am mainly just talking about the system C: with all my installed programs ..People have mentioned that I could use asus software on the laptop to make a bootable cd. That could work. Imaging the C: on the laptop was another idea. Just want to protect the system drive and all installed software etc. Separate files I am ok to backup myself.
