I'm sure someone else must have had this problem. Unfortunately my efforts to find other posts detailing a fix have been fruitless.
I did a fresh install of Win7 today, and the keyboard won't come on. At all.
Would a kind soul please take pity on me and direct me to a thread where this problem has been dealt with?
Thank you for helping out the mentally challenged.

You ned to reinstall the ATK driver package and then fn+f4.

I did the same, and it went down too.
I didn't make a BIOS update but the keyboard is now turned off. As soon as starup. Wich means that the install messed up with a flag in the ROM.
Installing and re-installing drivers, then entire Windows, once from the partition recovery, once from the dvd's did nothing.
I'm ... I'm... I wont say, don't want to be rude ;-) -
After installing the atk drivers (that show icon/..) do you see the icons showing up on the screen when fn+ changing the display brightness and volume and the keyboard lights ?
ps.: my problem was reverse lol ... using notebook cooler and if trying to power the cooler with adapter then the 5V leaks back from it's usb hub to the notebook keeping the keyboard lights on even when the pc is off. -
What I understand is that it's something in the parameter ROM that went wrong. Anyone knows how to edit it ?
Here's what one victim got from Asus :
keyboard and(or) touchpad can be light up, but after enter OS, cant, please help to put attachment into a bootable USB device, then boot from it.
Then, Run command : bt /w 27 XX,
IV. if this NB when power on, both K/B & Touchpad light up, please to use 7C at that XX position, if only keyboard light up, please to use 7E at that. If only touchpad light up, please help to use 7D that XX.
But there was no attachement to the email and they then said that they could not send attachment at all.
So we need this utility or any utility that edits the PROM
