I just had to share this with everyone, I am extremely happy with my EeePC. I bought a EeePC 4GB from Costco.com about a month ago along with 2GB of ram and a 8GB SDHC card. I installed XP off a thumb drive, it took about 3 tries to get that right, but after it was up and running. I've been mainly using for browsing, playing some Mario Kart 64 and downloading drivers for computers that I'm working on. Its great because my other notebooks a C90S and that big heavy and requires power to function properly and I've used the EeePC now on several occasions for multiple days (20 mins or more at a time) before having to plug it in for a charge. Its a real time saver if you just wanna check you email and a few things without wanting to boot my desktop or pull my C90S and power cord outta my backpack.
Today I just came back from the emergency room after a mishap this morning the EeePC is just so much easier to deal with then say the C90S. I have to say in hind sight I should of gotten a 16GB SDHC card so I could have more music and still have space for downloads and roms, that or get a iPod touch which is the closest thing I can put in a catagory with the EeePC (browsing, emailing, music and simple apps), but the full keyboard wins it for me.

Congrats, RangerXML
That's great to hear.
The EeePC really is a handy little machine... I'm sure i'll get one in the near future as well! -
Nice, I want one even more whenever I read threads like this!
-
I have always wanted one too, but I went for the ipod touch instead
-
I just purchased an EEE 4G as well.
I had a few scares trying to edit xandros. I'm finally getting it piece by piece to where I want it. I'm going to work on editing the start menu next.
I was surprised the EEE gets so hot while running. The review on here does warn about it though. -
hey guys can i ask a question? Do your battery meter drain in 10% blocks or like other laptops in 1% blocks? Mine drains in 10% blocks and takes ages to charge to 100% (like 10-12hours) is this normal?
-
Hi,
battery drain is normal for an asus.
Don´t expect long battery life or battery quality.
Greets -
I do not have an EEE, yet, but if your battery is draining in less than the posted time (by 30min-1hour) you may try recycling the battery. On my Asus, I have reset the battery via bios.

My Eee runs fine for ~2 hours. At brightness set to the lowest level (you can just about make out stuff - it's a great alternative privacy filter lol), it sure can go above 3.
I have a 16GB card and 2GB RAM. Overall it's an amazing machine - the major con for me is that it cannot decode 720p videos, and a lot of the stuff I have is 720p (if not higher). The speakers are quite good for something this size. I was quite amazed.
I hate how the AC adapter's plug just flips back in easily - and it takes up two slots on a powerstrip (unless if it's on the edge, but another friend of mine has an Eee, so yeah XD)
If the 2nd gen does HD, I might consider that - selling the current one due to my financial situation  -
umm how do i reset the battery via bios ?
-
@ Thomas: As I do not have one, I am not sure. On my current Asus, it is an option I believe in the system. This is just a regimented way to reset it. The poor man's way is to let your laptop completely drain. I mean, continuously get it to suck power where it be plug things into the USB, clicking the on button, .... Once it is completely and utterly dead, plug it in and leave it for an hour or two after it says full. This will recycle the batter and hopefully get you some more time.
I have done the first way once, as it said to do that when I turned it on, but I have done the latter numerous times with an old laptop and my palm. It works like a charm for the conditions. -
IIRC, there is no "reset battery" in BIOS for the Eee.
-
...theres a little pin hole I thought was for resetting the BIOS?
I haven't had any real issues with the battery, besides not really knowing what time is left. I'm hoping they have something worked out by the time the 6 Cells are released. There is a battery monitoring porgram (battery something.NET) thats suppose to be good, but has a huge memory leak that seems like it will never be fixed since the guy who programed it did it for a project. -
I'm worried about the whole Limited write to soldered flash HD though... That doesn't seem too comforting honestly. That's the only negative thing I can see about the EEE right now.
-
But 1,000,000 cycles (which is the rated life of it) is about 2 years. And by then I'm sure you'll have something else
-
I've let the battery drain till the EEE PC shuts down and then charged it to full but no avail, it still drains in steps of 10% and charges really really slowly..often being stuck at 40% or 70% for hours and hours.
I've even brought it down to Asus's Service Centre here in Beijing but they insist such behavior is NORMAL for ALL EEE PCs. Have any of you guys experienced this? -
I have an 8G with 2gig ram and an 8gig SDHC type 6, wireless mouse usb and yes if I leave it on the battery will take 12-14 hrs to charge. I am runnig win xp and the dci eeectl program to clock to 900+ when needed and the modded vid drivers for 800 x 600 no scrolling. With it clocked up I don't think it would ever recharge the battery but it does keep up so far -
So from what I've read, the SSD will last longer than both you and any hard drives you might own. -
-
Windows is fairly accurate, so is the default Xandros distro. It's other OSs like EeeXubuntu or Linux Mint that has trouble with the battery (and it claims that the battery is broken).
-
The 10% increment is normal for the EEE. This has to be corrected in a future BIOS update. It doesn' tmean the battery is bad, just that it's not counting down 1% at a time. You can get more accurate (down to 5%) by using TMT's battery status application. Look for it on leog.net forums.
I am really happy with my EeePC
