I went into a local OEM store on Thursday and placed an order for an Asus W3J, along with an optical drive battery.

    W3J was $1950.00+tax
    OD battery was $125+tax

    Total amount paid: $2359.80

The laptop will arrive on Tuesday, and the battery on Thursday! :D I'll post some pics with my camera too when I get it.

Just a few questions now though...

    1) How many hours can I expect to get with the included 8cell battery + the optical drive battery, say.. watching a .avi movie, or playing a game?

    2) If my classes have outlets on each table to use, should I just bring my AC adapter with the laptop to classes, and leave the OD battery and the regular battery OUT of the laptop? I read somewhere that it's better to leave the batteries out if you aren't using them?

    3) How do I charge the OD battery?

    4) Can the OD battery be used without the regular 8cell battery? (Lighter laptop, but less hours.. which is fine, since my classes aren't too long)

    Thanks!

Movie, about 2 movies I would assume.

For gaming it would be 2-3~ hours max, depending on which type of game as well.

The only game I'd probably play on battery is DotA from Warcraft 3 TFT hehe.

You'll get at least 2 hours of gaming in on the battery with those games.

Well, DotA, rather WC3 isn't that CPU intensive, nor GPU, so it should last a while.

Perhaps one or two good -apem's, or a dozen -dmaridem :p

    -wtf mode :D

    2. Carrying the battery around is not a bad thing, it does not overcharge, it doesn't damage it. In the end, its just a battery, abeit a expensive one. It's meant to be used, most people are fairly over thinking.

    3. The OD battery charges inside the OD pretty much heh :p

    4. IIRC, the OD can not be used by itself, the main 8 cell has to also be there. Correct me if I'm wrong, since I have no real proof but from what I've heard.....once.....a long time ago :p

I ordered from newegg, the actual white/blue case was inside another box with regular but thick cardboard, and then that inside a bigger box with padded paper. Inside the W3j box, the laptop (inside foamy plastic bag) is suspended in the middle with cardboard support structures on the side and then all the other accesories are in a carboard box.
