OK, well today involved a lot of manual labor. Unfortunately, as great as it was to finally get a good shipment of Merom Ensemble's, the A8f, A8js and R1f are all sold out already. The W5f and W7j are still in stock, but there aren't a hell of a lot of those either. If you're interested, I know a lot of W7j's that should be gone but a lot of people still haven't gotten the email I sent out last Friday saying they were coming in.... so there are some left till they get to them at least

More of the A8f, A8js and R1f should be in next week. We were supposed to get confirmation of that today, but it never came. More will come in and we will everyone their systems as fast as humanly possible, so those that didn't get in on the advanced orders, you'll just need to hang in there.

Drop me a line if you need anything.

Not sure if this was ever mentioned, but I spent the day going through all of the new systems and verifying their configurations.......There have been misconceptions by others, so I wanted to clear a few things up:

    1. A8Fm and A8Js both have SATA 100gb/5400rpm HDD - not PATA
    2. A8Fm and A8Js both have 1 x 1gb DDR2 667 - not 2 x 512mb
    3. A8Fm has Bluetooth - the A8Js does not
    4. A8Fm and A8Js both come with USB mice - W5Fm/W7Jp/R1f all come with Bluetooth mice
    5. ALL of the Core 2 Duo models are coming with carrying cases now
    6. ALL of the Core 2 Duo models are coming with a 2 year global warranty and 30 zero bright dot lcd warranty now

None of the above as part of any special deal or limited to any group of people. The mice now coming with the models is not to be confused with part of our member program where one of the options is for a free Asus bluetooth mouse.... I think it's safe to say that once all of the older models are gone, most won't need that option anymore. There are other options and I'll make even more, but I know I've been asked about this of late, so hopefully this helps answer some questions you've all had but were afraid to ask.

... however the free Asus portable router is exclusive to the group buy.

What kind of battery life can one expect from the A8FM (compared to the A8JS), and does the A8FM have DVI?

30-40 minutes per cell is the average for all of Asus' notebooks. Eliminate the dedicated graphics and you can get closer to that 40 minute mark. But with only a 6 cell battery, you're looking at a max of about 4 hours of normal use. You can certain do some things that make life better and worse, but for the most part, it's pretty good.

Yeah, I'm fairly certain I saw a DVI on the A8fm when I was verifying their configurations.

What, in the A8? Nothing special...... the high end models get better stuff.. The A8js has a bag that some may remeber from last year as it came with the W3v. I think the A8Fm bag was slightly cheaper - it may have been the same one.

The A8Js comes with a usb mouse since it doesn't have bluetooth..... but the A8Fm comes with the same usb mouse, but it does have bluetooth.

So the A8Js and co have been available for a few days now which is great. Has there been anymore news on the W3Jp though? I think you've said before that the A8Js and W3Jp would come in sync so is that still the plan or has the it been delayed again?

Yeah, but the A8j's came early and the W3jp's didn't. Newest news is next shipment for everything won't be till the first couple days of November. So this was more of a teaser shipment.

No, Asus has been sold out of them for 3-4 weeks now and basically Asus never cared about their dealers.. their rebates are to help them get rid of them, not us. But then again, I think the only place that still has stock from that last shipment would be newegg and frankly they still have W3v's from last year.... Asus doesn't care.

Nothing will be "added" to the rebate, some will probably be removed because they'll be out of stock, that's all.

Theres tons of them for sale.
Actually I have no idea how many, but theres at least 6 places still selling them

So the information justin gave you might help you negotiate with the dealer

Let me just point out that just because six places still have them on their site... or even have an "in stock" tag next to them... doesn't mean they have them. I'm not quite sure why people assume everyone keeps their stuff up to date, but I know we try to keep things up to the minute and yet we still get calls and emails many times a day just trying to verify those current levels.

.... Anyone who still actually has them would probably be willing to work something out. I'm only saying that because if they actually have a large ensemble presence, people would have known they had them and they would have been sold out already. After Asus sold out, the rush was on.. .and I know plenty of people realized very late that they didn't need the merom cpu and/or couldn't wait for it...... so everyone that was out there should have bought up. I'm just saying that listing it as in stock could be a way of attracting buyers for the next model or some sort of bait and switch. Not everyone is on the up and up...... but like I said, if they sell ensembles, they'd have to have been dead to the world over the last two months to still have left.

nah, was just curious about what will happen to the Yonah w3s rather than an interest in buying them, i'm still intent on getting my hands on the merom W7 :) .. although there are many times where the looks of the w3 lure me over to 14".

I hate to start a new thread so I'll just ask here :)

First of all, Justin, thank you for this info, very helpful. For me at least.

However, you didn't mention special info on the W5Fm.
I looked over the internet and found this PDF file. According to it the 2 important changes are:
    1) W5Fm comes with SATA instead of PATA in the W5F.
    2) W5Fm comes with 1.5GB (512MB onboard + 1GB SODIMM) instead of 1GB at W5F.

    Can you verify that?

    Thanks.

That's not a problem.. you just brought back a very dead thread..... but, you missed one important thing... Asus' models are different around the world - each office orders what they want for their market. The US market's W5fm only got a CPU upgrade for C2D... it does not have more internal memory, a bigger hard drive, or SATA.

    US Model
    100gb PATA HDD
    1gb DDR2 (512mb onboard + 1 x 512mb so-dimm

Yeah, I know. I hate bumping old threads but this one already handle a subject I'm referring to.

Anyway, back to your reply. I guess you're right about the models.
Well, it seems that in EU, Italy and Germany, ASUS push the W5Fm with SATA. I even noticed models with 1.5GB and 2GB of internal memory.

I don't know what ASUS will market in Israel as the W5Fm isn't available here yet. Actually, the local disty is still selling Pentium M and Core Duo models. BUT, as soon as I know I'll update here, if people are interested.

I know I'm right, I have systems to physically check... so it makes being right easy. However, in terms of internal memory and SATA - one thing that doesn't change from the factory is the motherboard..... and more onboard memory isn't an option I see on the list.... and nor is SATA drives - it would require changing the motherboard.... so, I don't know about that... but I don't doubt people advertising them that way... 90% of the people in this country that sell Asus' stuff doesn't have never seen them in real life let alone what's inside of them.
