First of all I would like thank everyone on this forum. Ive been researching the Asus c90s for almost 2 months and would like to thank everyone for posting their feedback. I would also like to thank GenTechPc for their fast and friendly service. So far im very satisfied with my laptop. I upgraded my graphics card to the 256 mb ddr 3 version. Ive been playing Oblivion max specs at 1400x1050. I will be trying to repay this forum by posting a review of my laptop. There is only one problem I have. I wanted to play Bioshock but needed to update my drivers for it. Ever since I updated my drivers my graphics preformance has been terrible. Oblivion will not even play smoothly like it did on the stock driver. Then when I switch to the stock driver Bioshock freezes after the intro. Ive been trying to find the correct drivers but have failed since. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you,
k

This is more of a gaming question. You might find answers here.

Congrats on your purchase. Which exact driver are you using?
-
I got my C90 a week or two ago, I'm using the 165.01 with updated INF drivers from laptopvideo2go, and it runs great. I played the bioshock demo and while it lagged a little, ( all max settings...weeeee ) I never had any loading issues, or artifacting.

165 drivers are very old. Try the 163.75 drivers. They are the latest and will give you a nice boost in performance.

oh, I thought the higher the number the newer the driver...hehe, I'll download them, though! thanks
*edit* oh, I guess I should have looked at the date... -
Try this one.
Xtreme-G Mobile 163.67 Vista 32-bit (64-bit unavailable)

@masterbw I went ahead and downloaded those drivers. They do make bioshock run but extremly choppy. I lost a lot of fps and gained shuttering in oblivion.
@foxstick. I tried everything they said on that website and oblivion wont run smooth at 800x600. With my stock drivers i was able to run oblivion at 1400x1050 full everything a avg of 40fps...
Im not sure what the problem is. Anyone else with a 256mb ddr3 card having this problem? -
You sure? I thought you actually needed at least a 8800GTX to get that....
The X6800+ Desktop 8600GT is supposed to give about 25FPS on 1280x1024... (I got 15 on a desktop 8600 + Sempron 3100+)
You do use 4xAA + HDR right? -
hm...I'm trying to install the 163.75 vista drivers, and when I run the setup it says "The Nvidia setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with you current hardware." then I tried to direct Vista to the folder, and it says, to my annoyance, that their integrated VGA drivers are "up to date"......what am I doing wrong? :-/

You need to go to laptopvideo2go.com , extract the driver and replace the .inf file
Also, what is you GPU temps? -
oh, which INF file should I use? I figured I didn't have to download one since there wasn't an option next to it
well...I can't tell you what it's exactly at right now, since I don't have drivers installed, but with my cooling, idle it's around 75-80, and one night while in a hot room after hours of gaming it got up to about 100. -

Assuming you are on vista32bit
Temps seems like me, but you're on a GDDR3 right? And what about non-cpu intensvie games (like any prior 2005 game)? -
thanks! I was looking at http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/drivers/vista and didn't see the INF download button so I assumed not.
-
I just installed the driver with the updated INF and...I'm getting like 2100 3d marks, was getting 3700 with the 165's....anyone know why that might be?

Do you have the gddr3 card? If you do I think you should stick to stock drivers.
-
oh...damnit, I went through all that for nothing! thanks though

Hehe well you could be a guinea pig, if you still have it installed try gaming with it. It might just be a weird thing with 3dmark but gaming performance might be better. No one ever mentioned that they just mentioned 3dmark scores.

well, time to load up some games!

I didn't do that much testing, had to run to wal-mart, but I loaded up Portal and set it to the settings I had with the 165 drivers, and got a significant decrease in performance. With the 165's I was getting anywheres from 40 to 70 fps, and didn't take a hit when I opened portals in succession and looked through them like mirrors. With the 163.75's I was getting 35 fps tops, with the high 20's to low 30's looking down a long hallway, and down to 15 when opening portals. Not really scientific, and only one game, but after seeing that change in performance I'm pretty convinced it's not just a 3dmark thing
I just got my c90s
