My Asus g50vt a1 get's pretty hot especially when i'm gaming. I tried to make a makeshift laptop stand to raise the back of the laptop but it didn't work to well. Does any1 else have a laptop stand that they use with their g50?

You could suspend it mid air its not going todo a terrible amount of good. Eeven the cooler that matches best to the vents and leaves me cold sitting in front of it, only drops the temp by 5C. A laptop stand is of course alot cheaper then the zalman but most wont do much more then propping it up as is, propping up the back doesnt help the hard drives any but does help the rest of the vents.

The G50 uses a force draw method of cooling to help cool all of the internal components and not just the cpu and gpu. As i said you could suspend it in air and unfortunately it wont increase the air flow anymore then an appropriate amount of spacing from a table.

Unless your wanting to be dissapointed on dollar per degree, the cheapest and probably most effective without a cooler method is a hard flat surface with a prop in the back. A flat surface stand wont do any better then a flat surface, but I have seen quite a few stands with like a hole in the middle to facilitate air flow.

Are you gaming in your lap or on a table? ANy lap stand will of course increase YOUR comfort and probably not do crap for the laptop itself. I found undervolting did alot for cpu heat, alot more then the cooler ever did.

well I'm not to worried about my cpu, its my gpu that overheats a lot.
Right now It's on a flat surface.
Yesterday I took a old plastic lacross stick cut the ends off. I put the shaft under the bottom of the back too rubber stands on my laptop. This raises the back up about an 1 in,

Is this better then having it sit on a flat wooden desk? And can it hurt the laptop in anyway?

I'd recommend the Zalman NC2000 (fit up 17" notebooks). Some G50 owners have noticed a 5-10C drop when using it. Although the highly regarded NC1000 is suppose to fit up to a 15" notebook, it's not quite large enough for the G50Vt.

In my opinion the flat wooden desk is fine, and unless its particularly sensitive it shouldnt be bothered by the heat of the computer either. You can see my chart in my review (of the zalman) of my tested temps with the P7450, with the T9600 the GPU gets upwards of 90C in comparison with the previous temps of 79 to 83 (occasional spike of 85).

I currently run the G50 Bottomless on the cooler and the GPU who would get to 90C on the cooler now never goes over 75C. It is however not advisable to run bottom off without some sort of cooler as other things wont be cooled properly.

Note that reducing CPU heat reduces GPU heat as the gpu is cooled by the air that just finished cooling the CPU! The P7450 to T9600 swap showed this very clearly, however undervolting the T9600 only reduced gpu temp by about 2 degrees and with the T9600 voltage hungry on overclocks i gave up.
