 Hi guys, what hdd you recomendme for the Asus G50vt-x5

I use daemon tool to run games , that means I want a quick and faster HDD.

If you can recomendme some to check the prices and tell me the brand model.

Or is better performance with a e-sata connection HDD?

    Thanks
    Walt

An internal HDD would work just as fast as an external HDD connected via eSATA.
I'd personally recommend Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD5000BEVT 500GB 5400RPM due to its reliability and Western Digital's excellent customer support. However, if you have the means to purchase an SSD hard drive, then that would provide even faster speeds.

note : and a solid state disk may be in a couple of years. expensive like my laptop

7200RPM drives are only better if compared with the same capacity 5400RPM drives. eg 500GB 5400RPM HDD will run faster than a 200GB 7200RPM HDD due to the 500GB's higher platter density.
On the other hand, Seagate does have a 500GB 7200RPM HDD, but there has been a few performance issues with it with some users. I'd still recommend the Western Digital Blue since it's not only cheaper, but also more reliable and you'd probably won't notice the difference in speed with a 500GB 7200rpm drive.

There's been a run of good deals on 320 GB laptop hard drives. I picked up the Hitachi Travelstar myself and its been great performance and price.

David, guys , thanks for your help , a lot , my 2 last questions is only to be sure,

    1) I can buy a wester digital 500gb 5400 rpm with SATA 3.0 gb/s?
    or the Asus g50vt x5 work with sata 1.5 ? or ATA 6 ?

    2) a 500gb 7200 rpm sata 3 , in all brands give a low performance? or only segate have a 500gb 7200 rpm sata3?

Thanks a lot David and all the people give me a hand!!!

I would highly recommend the WD Blue in this case, but that's only because I've used it before in a previous machine.

    1. The G50VT will work with SATA 3GB/s drives

    2. There's only one 500GB 7200RPM that I currently know of, and that's the Seagate.

    On 320gb 7200 rpm with 16mb cache AND a 500gb 5400 rpm with 8mb cache...

for better performance , is better sacrifice 180gb but have a HDD with 16MB cache? or the 16MB make no difference in performance??? and get the 500gb

Thanks again. the next one you can charge me jajajaj.
    thanks a lot

The 320GB 7200RPM is just slightly faster, but you won't notice the different in real life. Performance differences will show in benchmarks, but in your daily usage, not so much.

    Don't worry, I've already sent you a bill :p

But if Im playing a game with Daemon tools, running a heavy game like Crysis all game from the HDD, and at the same time Im downloading something with UTorrent, the hard drive go to jump to read and write in diferents part of each disc like crazy, that the reason I supouse better RPM and more CACHE 16MB, make a quick and faster HDD for the use I want.

You tell me, I don't see the difference, means my game don't freezze any some time and play smooth , my dvds play smooth good , don't take extra time to load the game, at the time is saving my downloads ???????

    Thanks you man !!!! :)

I also have the g50vt-X5 and I was wondering if you can RAID (can someone show me a link on how to do that?) 2 HDD's that are at different speeds or manufacturers?

Ideally for Raid 0 performance they should be the same, the one that comes in the G50 sells for 99 on newegg. Raid1 (redundant backup) can be done with even two different size drives but the raid volume on the larger drive will be that of the smallest drive in the setup.
