Also when is RAM going to be upgradable to 800MHZ? Will I be able to upgrade my notebook to this speed?

    1) 200MHz is not going to be worth the price premium you'll pay. 2.2GHz is my recommendation...most of the time you won't use 100% of the power anyway.
    2) 800MHz RAM...you should be able to upgrade to it, but it isn't out yet. Even when it does, latencies might hold it back. Currently 533 and 667 RAM perform about the same because of the latencies...
    3) I don't know about the vendor. I'm not too familiar with Asus...yet.

Any of the trusted resellers around here (mentioned in the Information Booth sticky) would be recommended. These include GenTech, MilestonePC, XoticPC, BTOTech and PROPortable.

I concur with skipping the CPU upgrade - you will never notice the difference and you can apply the funds toward other parts of the machine if you want to customize.

The warranty that GenTech talks about is because when you customize an Ensemble Asus model beyond HDD or RAM, this immediately VOIDS the Asus global warranty and they *will not* offer any service or warranty work on the unit for you. Dealers are expected to offer an alternative warranty if they offer this.

Personally I would choose GentechPC for their great service and support. I just had to RMA my notebook I bought from them a year ago for a motherboard problem and it was an easy, no hassle experience.

    Just excellent.

    +1 GentechPC.

    :)

I have heard great things about the following three:

    -PROportable
    -GenTech
    -MilestonePC

When I buy mine it will be between those three. (based on prices for upgrades and things like that.)

Gentech seems to be the only website of those three where I can customize the G1s. Am I right?

Also, I live in North Carolina. Will they charge me tax here?

I will probably go on and order mine next Tuesday for sure. I am so eager I can't hardly stand it! :D

Other sites will sell you the parts, but you will have to do the assembly (for warranty reasons).

Gentech has the best price and is the only one I've seen so far that is customizable.

I just bought a G1S from ExcaliberPC.com because it was also a good price, but because I need it soon and knew they could get it to my soon. It has shipped and should arrive on Friday.

Yes, stick with 2.2GHz and put the money into something else like 4GB of RAM or a 7200 RPM 160GB hard drive.

BTOTech will also very likely add customizing as an option for the G1s, when they have it in stock (they are not running a pre-order at this point). Eddie's warranty and customer service are excellent (bought mine from him) - but you can't go wrong with any of the resellers in the Info Booth sticky.

Unless you take delivery of a unit within the State where the company resides, there is no state sales tax collected. None of those companies are in NC, so you're off the hook.

Yea, Eddie is a huge Asus fanboy, almost as bad as me! He takes good care of those laptops. You would be hard-pressed to find a reseller who will do as good of RMA work as he can. (So I've heard and can read for his posts.)
