If you want a clean Vista install:
    - Insert recovery DVD, reboot computer, press ESC at ASUS splashscreen. Select CD/DVD device to boot from. Wait. Do NOT insert the drivers and apps CD when the recovery process asks for it, instead force a reboot. This gives a clean Vista install. Then install drivers manually.

    With bloatware:
    - Reboot computer, press F9 at splashscreen. Follow the instructions on screen.

In both cases, select Recover to 1st partition only to keep your data on the D: partition intact.

Hmm, sorry about that. Something went wrong.

    Try the following:
    1. Recovery from the HDD (press F9)
    2. Recover to entire HDD in two partitions. That should redo the partitions and hopefully solve your problem.

    Ok, I will try it.

I found about your post from signature and explain about remove the safety bloatware like from list that you made it then I would follow it to remove the safety bloatware because I don't want my laptop to be screw up like black screen after restart.

Which stuff is dangerous to remove (from Uninstall on Control Panel) from ASUS laptop? I think that GPU is one of them because it will cause to lose all GeForce feature and end up into standard with slow or no graphic support.

Hi, first focus on getting your computer to boot. Then we'll discuss bloatware.

Also, make sure your data on the D: partition is backed up before you recover to entire HDD.

Another question: when the screen was black with a mouse cursor, was there HDD activity? Did the HDD light blink from time to time?

If so, then you might have rebooted the computer too early. (it might have been running tasks in the background) I know that there were problems with Vista recovery where the recovery itself said the user could reboot the computer -- and it was not safe to do so, it resulted in a corrupted install.

But this sort of problems should not happen when you recover from the HDD. Try that first.

I had tried to hit F9 at splash screen but no lucky. :(

I decided to call newegg to received the RMA number and return the laptop to newegg for replacement, I'm naive about PC based notebook with vista, I had been some experience with XP from my old HP desktop with Pentium 4 and recently new iMac with Mac OS X and using Vista via boot camp.

I was thought that PC based notebook will be easier to recovery as recovery from vista via boot camp on Mac OS X but mine is wrong and it seems like complicated to me and much more frustrated to get done with all issue. When Vista was screw up on my iMac then I just deleted the partition from boot camp and create new one and re-install the vista as clean then activation so properly.

For answer your question, when I hit esc button then push the ASUS recovery CD into laptop and install the clean vista then asked me to install the driver CD and put ASUS driver CD into laptop then command shell was popped and install all down the list then went into black screen and HDD activity (flash light) went off, just like nothing. I was like so-so at this laptop, it has been tried about 5 times.

Sorry you need to return your computer :( Personally, I would have suggested waiting a bit more.

Namely, I would do the same thing you did but NOT reboot for an hour or two, even if the computer has a black screen and it seems that nothing is happening. I know many instances where people rebooted the Vista recovery too early because it seemed idle -- but it hadn't finished installing.

The recovery is very poorly coded, things have long timeouts and such. If the computer is fast, it will seem that nothing is happening over some stretches of time.

Besides this, I am puzzled by the fact that HDD recovery didn't work. Maybe Vista messed up the partition table on the HDD... Did you try pressing F9 several times, starting from when you boot the computer until Vista tries to boot?

Does ASUS recovery will be done with black screen for an hour?

Yup, I had tried hit F9 about 5 time, when failed then tried hit so many time then it does nothing but rather to boot up into windows and confirmed that windows installation is failed.

When in next time if happen again, does I should leave laptop alone after went into black screen when recovery and ask for driver CD is complete, means not full complete because laptop went out into black screen after installed driver CD? Cannot bother to hit power button?

yes, I recommend that. Let it sit for about 2 hours. If there is no activitiy after two hours, here is what I recommend as the next step.

    1. Wipe the HDD, leaving the recovery partition intact. Remove OS and data partitions. Rewrite the Master Boot Record of the HDD. Here is how to do that.

Download the base FreeDOS ISO, burn it on a CD. Boot the CD.

    X:> CD FREEDOS
    X:\FREEDOS> FDISK

Delete all partitions (interface is self-explanatory) except the first one (the recovery, should be on the order of GB).

    Close FDISK.
    X:\FREEDOS> FDISK /MBR

CTRL ALT DEL to Reboot. Your HDD should be clean (except partition table was not erased & rebuilt; for that you would need qtParted).

Then try recovering from the HDD using F9, again. If it hangs again, this time don't wait for two hours because we already know that's not the issue. But do the following.

    3. WIPE THE ENTIRE HARDDRIVE including the Recovery partition.
    Do the FDISK thing.
    Try recovering from the DVD.

If neither of these works, send it in.
