Today, I tried upgrading my WinXP Pro on my W3J to Windows Vista Ultimate Upgrade DVD. However, after i did that my system went into a continous reboot loop. I would try the solutions that were presented on this forum, but I only have the Recovery CDS provided by ASUS and not the full install for XP Pro. My question is how can I salvage my notebook and reinstall the recovery CD on my W3J? Also I upgraded my HDD to 7200 RPM last year, can i just swap out that HDD and put back the stock 5400rpm HDD?

I need a little bit of clarification. Are you trying to save the files on it or are you willing to let the entire HD go? Unfortunately it may be very difficult to do the former. Your best chance to save your files is to load a Linux LiveCD and take any of the files off the HD and put them on some other media. Then use the Asus recovery CDs to get a blank XP install and go up to Vista from there. As you mentioned, you could also just go back to your old HD if this is too much work.

well i was able to fix my W3J and restore it back to WinXP Pro. I downloaded this boot CD program called SuperFdisk:
    http://www.ptdd.com/bootablecds.htm

After creating a boot CD with that program I loaded it up and selected the option to delete the MBR (Master Boot Record). Now I'm up and running WinXP pro again. So I guess now all I have to do is wait for that bios update, which I hope will be out soon.

Glad to hear it. It's so annoying that a small error in the MBR or partition table can cause such havoc.
