I don't know what to do anymore. My laptop (g73) isn't working anymore. It was working fine yesterday.

When I woke up and turned it on, it was acting all slow. I did everything I could think of, ran virus scanner, used CcCleaner, rouge killer, malwarebytes, etc.

But then my system started shutting down on its own. Quick scan detected nothing.

I tried safemode and it didn't seem to work.

And now.... my computer won't turn on at all. After I restarted, it asked me to insert boot disk. I went into my bios and the computer SHUTS DOWN in the bios!

Now..... I push power and the screen is just black and freezes............

Do I need to RMA the thing? Is it a possible hardware issue? If it is, then what in the world is it? Not to many major issues for 4 years till now.....

edit - If I can't fix it myself, I'll rma. Got a question, where should I send to fix it the quickest? I heard asus is rather slow and in 2010 when I was active on the forums, I heard some people saying they took it to xoticpc for repairs? Or was it somewhere else?

    It sounds like 2 things.

    1) Something is up with the power supply, if the power it was feeding declined over 48 hours, this would lead to the cpu being forced into a low powered state until eventually it could no longer be stable. Is the battery still good in the laptop? I mean it can power the laptop for at least 15-20 minutes if needed too? If it can then the power issues is in the motherboard and you would need an expensive motherboard replacement.

    2) something happened with the cooling solution, like maybe it came detached from the cpu. This would cause the cpu to quickly heat up. The first thing the cpu would do is throttle heavily down until it would be forced to shut off the laptop to prevent further damage.

^ I called asus reps and they told me to hold the power button with the battery disconnected as well as the plug for 30 seconds. When I did that and put the battery back in, the laptop managed to stay on longer but nothing is being displayed on screen now. In fact, it seems it just freezes 5 seconds after I start it up. it does however shut itself down after about 2-4 minutes.

Can't even get to the bios.

doubt its the temps, it doesn't feel as hot as it normally would when I'm gaming. The fan does spin really fast though at startup.

Change of topic - Where should I send my laptop for quick repair jobs? I don't want to wait more then 1 week honestly.

Sending it in anywhere will take more then a week once you factor shipping times. Consider a local repair shop for something quicker.

Sudden shut downs can indicate an overheating issue. Open up the main bottom panel and blow out the vents and fans with compressed air to clean out any dust that has built up over time.

If you originally purchased it from us you can send it in to get checked out, but again it will take longer then a week.

Laptops feel hot when the heatsink has successfully transferred the heat from the cpu. If the heatsink is no longer drawing heat away from the cpu then it will shut down way before anything else gets hot.

^Very useful information. Thanks. I went ahead and just shipped it to Asus. Better to have a pro look at it imo. I'll just have to wait a..... month before getting it back QQ

The service time may not be so bad. Often it's the round trip transit that adds so much to the turnaround time.
