Well, after removing some bloatware, installing 169.04 drivers and defragging, my 3dmark06 score jumped from 3300 to 3900! Now I want to push the GPU a *bit* further, just enough to get a performance edge without risking damage to the G1S.

I've searched around and it seems that people's overclocking numbers are scattered here, there and everywhere. A definitive resource with people's numbers and results is hard to come by...

So as it stands, RivaTuner says that my 8600M GT is sitting at 475 (Core) / 950 (Shader) / and 700 (Memory). Without wanting to inch up on those numbers bit by bit, I was wondering if you guys would chip in your current digits and results, with any possible remarks about temperature and hardware risks.

Would OC'ing the Core clock to 600 be too high???

    Godspeed.

At 600/1200/850 I ran. However, artifacts appeared in Oblivion (not in other games) and the driver would...well..."explode" a couple of times a week. xD

NVIDIA drivers have an overclocking adviser which picks the optimum clock and memory speed. I'm not sure how well it works but you could try it.

Id go 500/800 and do alot of testing for stability/temps. If your not happy with performance step it up 10mhz at a time from there.

Rule of thumb, never use auto overclocking!

What program can I use to relay temperature info??? And what are considered "safe" temperature zones???

I just OC'ed to 600/1200/775 and played Bioshock at 1024x768, with everything on high and DX10 textures on, at an average 32 FPS, sometimes hovering into the mid 40s. That's a huge improvement over my last figures! Now just have to check that the temps are OK...

In one of my old threads, I have overclocked the 8600m gt to stock 8700m gt speed. Which is 625 core and 800 memory. 3dmark06 ran fine but I haven't done any long term stability testing, so I'm not sure if its stable enough. As for Temperature range, its best not to reach triple digits. Mine personally has reached a highest of 98C.

Rivatuner alot of people use, but I heard it caused issues for some.

I still to the stuff that is meant for my card. In this case nvidia has there own program called nmonitor.

It can graph temps and also create a log.

Have it create a log, play for awhile then go back and check what the temps were.

Unlike the person above as far as temps I would never want anything in the 90's or higher.

Can someone tell me how to read my clocks properly in Rivatuner?? Im not sure which number is correct, they are all different. This is the current OC on my 8600m gt (g1s)

    YOWZERS!

Well, first off, Ntuner sucks, because everytime I set it to log my gameplay it resets itself when I actually start the game...but when I *did* manage to get the damn program to log a few brief instants after running 3dmark06 and Bioshock at the OC levels, it read 98 Celsius!!!

Looks like I'm going to have to drop 'er down a bit down, although I'm liking my current 3dmark score of 4736!!!

I've got to ask: are these programs lying about temperature or what? I don't believe for one second that my GPU is running as hot as a pot of scalding hot, boiling water. How do they derive these readings anyhow?!

Like i said i wasn't sure. I'll remember that for future, although personally i dont overclock. Partially because my hardware doesn't really support it (Can only overclock and monitor graphics temp, nothing else) but mainly i dont want to risk my system.
