And i'm notorious for buying something I think is state of the art only to find out right after I make the purchase, the newer model or something better comes out.. leaving me feeling like I just wasted my money.

I picked the A8Js because it's got an awesome GPU for it's size, the laptop is smaller than most 15.4" laptops and lighter, it's gots tons of power (up to a 2.33ghz C2D) and plenty of room for more ram. DVI output, etc.etc.

Anyways, should I go ahead and pull the trigger on an A8Js or WAIT for the next greatest thing Asus has to offer?

    Thanks in Advance,

    Jay

From everything I've read the "next great thing" from Asus is about 6 months away. I just ordered a G1 last week, I figure I'll wait till next year to look into the new intel stuff (SantaRosa) and Directx 10.

As mentioned, its not just you. It goes for everyone who buys technology, no matter what form, from computers and MP3 players. Technology moves, and it moves fast.

Well what do we know about generation Asus laptops in the 14" range are going to be packing? How much has the cost of the A8Js dropped since they first debut? Is it a good deal to buy one right now?

I just need some justification before buying it ;) Help me out!

Buy it. From what I've seen Asus prices tend to go up anywhere from $100 to $300 with refreshes and I don't think there are enough of them sitting on shelves to cause a big drop in prices when new ones come out. My guess is in 6 months or so you'll get a Directx 10 GPU in a model similar to that.

As was said above, if you keep waiting for the next thing you will never buy one.

maybe you should check hp dv2000 series, i am a asus fan myself too but hp did it this time. 2 gb ram, C2D, 120 hdd, only problem is 128 mb Nvidia graphics but has volume controls which i lack in my lovely w3j and media play buttons plus webcam.
