Hi guys. I'm buying this Asus in Vietnam very soon ( 2 hours later!!!). I need your advice on the quality and suitability of this one with the following specs:

    Core Duo T2130 2 x 1.86Ghz (1MB Cache), Memory DDR-II 512MB , HDD 160GB SATA, VGA Upto 64MB (shared), DVD-CDRW, 10/100/1000 + 56K , WI-FI (g), Card Reader 4 in 1, 14.1" WXGA Mirror, Webcam 0.35MP, 2.4Kg, 6 cell, OS: DOS, Carry Bag (Pin & Adapter 1 yr).Free DDR-II 512MB (667) and Mouse Asus

Since there is no official distributor of ASUS in VN, I would very much like to know about the quality of the laptop. Warranty lasts for 2 years but the store will be responsible for the laptop. Price is 850usd. Any advice is highly appreciated!

personally i wouldn't, but your needs may be different. the A8 is renound for decent graphics in a smallish body... integrated graphics is only good if gaming is not on your list of things you do.

A8 isn't exactly the best built Asus either....

sorry to put you off, but there are other versions of the A8xx

Well yah, Insane is correct about the A8js and A8jp were two of the best 14" notebooks that delivered great performance with a good price.

When considering the A8HE, you are obviously not looking forward to highend gaming, just regular tasks and multimedia. (nothing wrong with that).

The specs are fine, you will want to upgrade the ram in the future to 1.5gb or even 2gb.

As for build quality, it has been about 1 year since the release of the A8jp/s and many here have voiced their opinion on the quality. Many are negative, and some are positive.

The negative is generally dealing with the hinges, they can crack because the screws are too right. And over time you may see it crack, or the bezel and seems holding the lid together will start to separate.

Overall, the specs of the laptop will last you 2-3 years and hopefully you will get some decent battery life from it, since there is not dedicated graphics card, like the A8jp/s.
