I'm saving so much money reading these forums.

I've been reading the Asus forum and the Dell forum for the last three months with the intent of buying my first notebook (All though I do have five year old Mac Powerbook that's my wife's) and when I think I've found the perfect notebook I either start reading a thread about it where lots of people report problems or I realize that the perfect notebook with all the cool features is actually missing one feature that I think I might want - like an HDMI port. I figure I've saved a couple thousand dollars so far. (which of course will one day get spent. Hopefully soon.) .... So when are we going to see some new models, with a bit less power consumption but just as much CPU and GPU muscle?

I don't know if we will see this from Asus, which is sad.

Apple has been doing a great job of keeping the Macbook Pro power up to date while retaining excellent battery life.

That Macbook pro is just great, and Sony doesn't seem to that bad either with their FZ series (with HDMI output). Check those out if you haven't.

All the reviews I've seen claim the recent Sony FZ series has horrible battery life.

Heh, I understand about the saving money bit. I've came to this forum the beginning of this year, looking at the Sony SZ, then the Asus A8js, and have changed my mind so many times on what laptop would be best for me. I think it was from Sony SZ > Asus A8js > Asus A8jp > Asus W7j > Asus W3j > Asus V2S/Macbook Pro/Thinkpad t61p > Asus U3/Panasonic y5/LG T1

How come there isn't any perfect laptops? It seems to be a choice between quality, price, and battery life. T____T

nothing is perfect, the technology today keep changing, just buy a decent one and use it for couple years then upgrade again... we are consumers, we need to spend the money to make the world spin... lol...

There is no such thing as a perfect laptop.

There's no such thing as a perfect anything.

That's life, and we have to get used to it...

Well, in some way you are right. If for instance a notebook company would make a top-notch build quality laptop with a high-end graphics card, and a 5-hour battery life, then everybody will buy it and there will be no separate market for: the business laptop with the poor battery life, the gaming laptop with the poor build quality, and the ultra-portable with the poor GPU.

    Right?

Oh, you may ask: is such a laptop possible with today's technology? My answer is: Yes, it is. The only thing that is necessary is paying a bit more attention to power management in BIOS-es and drivers, instead of just realeasing a new machine with half-finished BIOS and drivers every month.

The Dell M1330 has phenom battery life, plain and simple. I know that someone is going to jump right in with 'build issues' but remember, its a very very small sector of the total buyers that are here, and most come because of problems.

Other than the battery life which is average over 9 hours on the 9 cell but can easily reach six, the standard and config options of the m1330 equals and surpasses other notebooks in almost all cases.

Oh that looks like a very nice notebook! If the build quality is good, I agree that it's a very good choice (will add it to my list).

And mentioning that most people come here with problems is not a proof that the Dell does not have build issues. You need to bring arguments that it actually has good build quality. Just pointing out a possible logical fallacy :)

Ok... my first shipment was for 3 systems, all with no problems. I have subsequently had two other m1330s delivered, again with not one problem. Thats five in total.

Next, Dell has an open customer thread and I have seen others outside Dell where customers have consistently rated it a four out of five.

On top of that, Dells background is such that, if you receive one with problems, they just build and send you another at which time you choose which is the best. if you are still not happy, you just call in and have another sent....and so on.

Quite frankly, its not so much the system as the XPS background...specific XPS numbers, qualified Techs, full manuals which even show assembly/dissassembly/free addons like notebook cases, remotes, earbuds as well as a complete set of replacement disks. To complete this, there is XPS support if you have any problems. believe me, when they say they will be at your door next day, THEY ARE!!

Enough yet...Im sure many are saying yes that is enough. I have been a Sony owner, HP, Compaq, Dell, and Gateway. I don't know of another that can claim the same for support...sorry.

Well it seems recent buyers disagree :) If it is possible to get a gaming notebook which you can also carry around, instead of a desktop, why not getting it?
