I'm thinking about an ASUS, any suggestions?

I am looking for a new laptop, I have no particular hurry, I was planning on buying in May, but could wait a little after that. Asus has had my eye for about 3 months, and think that I like what I see, so I figured I would ask what you think.

I want a new Core Duo laptop, probably a 2GHz machine. I want 1GB built in, preferebly with the option to go to 2 Gigs. I want builtin in WiFi, with 802.11B/G. Screen will be a 15.4" widescreen, almost certainly has to be a WSXGA, but if I have to, I can go back down to a WXGA. I want a dedicated graphics card, probably a minimum of 128MBs. I have an 80GB 7200 RPM drive that I plan to use, so that is preferebly something cheap, or an option not to buy. I want a dual-layer DVD burner, for sure a VGA or DVI port for my monitor, as well as minimum of 3 USB 2.0 ports, a port replicator option, though the Asus PortBar III doesn't seem all that wonderful. Everything else should be on the computer regardless, so I won't bother listing it.

I don't mind buying either a prebuilt (Ensemble) or a whitebook (its called the Built On line, right?). Let me know what you all think, is something good coming that I will like, or should I look at a different brand (Dell isn't an option). Price won't matter. Thanks a ton.

    MMmmm....

Sure enough, The wildly popular M6 should be refreshed with the new processors and will be out before or around when you are to buy.

Although I can't say about the screen, The Z70v/a(N.A.'s M6) and the M6v/a(Europe+Asia) have Matte and Glossy respectively. We'll see then.

    Have fun waiting ;)

Yea, May is pretty far from now. Your requirements and preference may change by then. I suggest you start looking about 2-3 months before time to purchase.

Like Coriolis said- enjoy the wait. :D

I will also agree! There will be plenty of new notebooks... some just over the horizon.

Come back to us in April/May and we'll recommend a good one for you :)

I had my eye on the Z70va, I really liked it, but I figured I should wait for the new processors and what not. Thanks for the replies!
