first of all, i just want to tell everyone who started the thread "Just got my W3J and very disappointed".

ok,i don't think if the solution has really something to do with my audio problem but it solved my problem perfectly. this is because i can't replicate the problem anymore after i adjusted some tweaks.

what i did is i went to the bios of my W3J and i changed my speaker volume on the advance tab from 4 to 8. and after i saved the settings, my audio sounds better. i can now clearly hear the voices of my music unlike before i only hear whispers. that is why i described the built in speakers of the W3J like listening to earphones not worn on our ears. now it beats my old 10.6" vaio vgn-16 in speaker volume.

ok, to those who know why is this so, please share your knowledge.

i also want to thank LYTHIA bec. she understands what i'm trying to say on my previous thread. i did not get any help in this forum especially to those person who really knows the product very well. they did not even propose a single solution.all they did was worry too much on their SALES rather than address the issue of the product. no offense to those who got hit. i'm just telling what i think. just ask someone else if they feel otherwise.

Kind of a strange "issue" - surely those less techy will attribute it to the laptop (ie...they won't realize it's a relatively easy fix).

Interesting decision by Asus to set the default so low - for music...etc it's alright IMO - plus their pretty small speakers so...

Initially.. I also thought it made a difference in windows sound, but it turns out, after a couple of tests, that it only adjusted BIOS volume.

Its only the volume of the bootup sound. If you disable the bootup sound, the option to change the volume disappears

i know. that is why it is kind of weird but it fixed my volume in windows. it really sounds better. not just better, way better. i'm not exaggerating the fact that the built in speakers really sounds like earphones. just imagine replacing the built in speakers whith the earphones. but still, it worked for me.

Sometime, in life, you got to figure things out by yourself. You did, well done.
I didn't think my W3 had an audio issue and you have actually provided the community of W3J users some useful info / thanks

The way you actualy went about it and communicate your problem and solution needs a bit more work though...

If you would have dropped the last two paragraphs in the above statement, IMHO you would have been a star.

a star, definitely no. maybe i got lucky that it fixed my system. like what schneid and ledzepp14 said, it is for the bootup audio, but not for windows. everyone else in our house said that the audio is better the moment they hear the W3J even though I haven't said anything about how i fixed it.

the first pharagraph means that i want to get other people's opinions on why this happened to my system bec. i used a solution that is not meant to solve the problem.

Good job at figuring that out for yourself...... sometimes the easier answers elude me because the sometimes obvious things are the last things you think of. Again, someone with less experience would contribute it to the laptop and those looking for the laptop consider it a problem......... when in reality you just didn't know how to make the adjustments.

Im glad you were able to do this on your own and I'm glad you were able to contribute to the community by coming back here and explaining what you did and how you made things better........ that's one quality I'd admire and not many people show on this forum... Most people who figure something like that out never come back either becasue they don't need the site anymore or they're embarassed to say that's what happened...

Thank you and I hope you will stick around and learn as much as you can give back.

So.............is that not the fix? I haven't tried it yet obviously, but I'm not getting that feeling?

Anyone else successfully boost the max volume of the laptop - is it a setting issue or a S/W issue with AsusDVD...etc.?

I'm coming late to the party, but I'm finding that it really is unusually quiet - almost unmanageable over the hum of the DVD drive when watching movies.

Glad to hear you got it fixed. :) It was odd that mine was pretty loud but yours wasn't, so there must be something that can be done, just have to figure it out. *cheers*

OK guys, please don't fall over laughing, but I am a relative computer newb. How do I get into my W3J BIOS, so I can try this fix for myself?

    Thanks

Too much of an Asus fanboy to read his initial post objectively? He compared the screen and speaker quality to two other notebooks and he was very dissappointed. He said the screen didn't look good, that it was grainy. He also said he could live with it, and that he knows other screens have the same problem. He then asked for help about the speakers, since he couldn't even hear much from them and asked very nicely
The closest thing to being offensive in his post was that he stated the screen and speakers were the worst he's ever seen and heard in a notebook. Are you saying he's lying and that there's no way the Dell and Sony could have better screens and speakers?
