Would it be too hard/expensive for them to make the LCD flip-around-able? (180 swivel)

Personally, I think it shouldn't be too hard to make the battery go on the side and have the thing at the center...

Asus has already announced this week that they are dumping the entire touchscreen concept from the 2nd Gen Eee production.

How exactly would you swivel the LCD within the bezel? Even tablets don't have that kind of thing, really. Remember, the Eee is designed and marketed as a subcompact PC, not in the PDA or internet tablet market which is where a 7" screen would play (and really not sell, neither Sony or Nokia can get theirs off the ground with the public).

Sorry, I meant the entire bezel, but I couldn't find the right word to say it =/

Probably it would have added too much to the costs, and price is perhaps the most important selling point of this machine... (as far as I can tell)

Really? If it's just 15 then it's probably not the price.

Well ASUS have made design decisions in the past that seemed strange when we looked at them from the West... but their main market is I think still Asia, so perhaps that's what they use to steer their production around.

On the other hand, they do sometimes make different models in Asia, Europe, and US respectively.

    Who knows...

I think someone realized that it would compete with something they had called the R2 and then called upon them to pull the plug. ;) If you look at the specs, a machine like that would almost certainly put the R2 to shame (esp. when you look at the price!).

I think they realized that unless they completely redesign the Eee as a tablet, a touchscreen is useless.
