I don't think so but I rigged up two blacklight LED's and two resistors to my custom made cooler and it works great :p

I don't think so because the Illuminated KB has one extra connector to the mainboard.

It'll fit but the extra connector on the G51Vx mainboard is required to provide the power to the keyboard backlight.

Wait so is it a completely different connector? And does it simply provide power? Because if so I wouldn't mind rigging up a USB connector with the right resistor to make it work. 5V USB should be plenty for an LED or two.

If possible can you provide an image of the connector itself? :)

EDIT: One more q and I'll stop being annoying: Are you sure the G51's keyboard will fit a G50vt? It looks like a different overall shape, ie: the G51's keyboard is a rectangle while my g50vt's arrow keys make it not perfectly rectangular.

Not different connector, it's just it has one extra connector to power up the backlight of the keyboard.

I'll try to take a picture for you.

I think you are right, the shape does look different.

The shape of the keyboard is different, we've tried doing that exact same thing without heeding our repair technicians warning.

Although we always go by what our main R&D engineers intended the models for, there are some days when we just have to try it.

Unfortunately, it's one of those days that it failed. epic failure at that too.

Hah, thanks for clearing that up for us! The epic failure on your end saves us from frustration and dismay for people like me.

Thank you both Ken from GenTechPC and Asus Customer Care. It's very encouraging to see unofficial support and enthusiasm from "bigger" people. :)
